Job description

Seeking a Project Manager I to support Substation Optimization projects across the Carolinas. This role is responsible for managing utility capital projects that strengthen and modernize the electric distribution grid while supporting long-term reliability and infrastructure improvements. The Project Manager will oversee projects from initiation through closeout, ensuring successful delivery while meeting scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety objectives.


Responsibilities

  • Lead assigned utility capital projects from planning through execution and closeout.
  • Coordinate and provide leadership to cross-functional project teams, including engineering, construction, project controls, supply chain, environmental, quality, safety, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop and manage project scope, schedules, budgets, procurement strategies, and resource plans.
  • Monitor project progress and proactively manage risks, issues, and changes.
  • Facilitate project meetings and maintain clear communication with project teams, leadership, contractors, and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare project status reports and provide regular updates on schedule, cost, and project performance.
  • Ensure projects are executed in accordance with established project management processes and standards.
  • Oversee contractor performance and support commissioning and project closeout activities.
  • Promote a strong safety culture while ensuring quality and environmental compliance throughout the project lifecycle.


Qualifications

  • Utility industry experience required.
  • Experience supporting electric distribution, transmission, or substation projects preferred.
  • Previous project management, project engineering, construction management, or project coordination experience.
  • Strong understanding of project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and execution.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with Maximo is preferred.
  • EPC project experience is preferred.
