Job description

Job Summary/Purpose

Manages large power plant projects or programs of projects that are typically $250M dollars and above. Manages the delivery of a capital project or program to which he or she is assigned and focuses on the achievement of project cost and schedule objectives while achieving excellence in the areas of project safety and quality. Works directly with the Project Team to ensure project is delivered with cost and schedule certainty. Manages risks and risk management issues to ensure risks are identified and mitigated. Works directly with Capital Projects Project Controls group to ensure alignment with Stage Gate Process and to ensure that proper project controls are being implemented; to ensure costs are managed; change control is established and controlled; and that contingency is properly controlled. Provides direct management and support to Project Team members throughout the project lifecycle. Works closely with business unit contractor representatives to achieve capital project objectives.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Promotes safe behavior and adherence to the safety rules on the project. Leads the project team to establish leading indicators and proactive requirements to ensure safety is considered in all aspects of design and implementation for contractors, Entergy project team members, and the end user. Ensures contract scope of work includes safety deliverables/requirements as needed.
  • Identifies the technical skills required to achieve project goals. Works with the appropriate Entergy management to assignment appropriately skilled individuals to the Project Team. Mentors, provides coaching and develops project team members. Prepares contract and approves requisitions, change orders, etc. and process invoices. Fulfills role of ""Contract Manager"" or as Owner's representative as otherwise defined in the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract, project contracts, and administer contracts. Issues formal correspondence to Contractors.  Presents documentation and change orders for approval by the Executive Steering Committee (ESC).
  • Leads the project team to develop and execute the Project in accordance with the applicable corporate standards and guidelines. Ensures that team members fulfill the responsibilities as required of their roles. Navigates the project through the Entergy Stage Gate Process (SGP) and coordinate activities to meet the requirements of Entergy's SGP and associated deliverables (project execution plan, estimates, schedules, gates, deliverables, etc.). Oversees the project team in the development of project deliverables. Coordinates the activities of project stakeholders and working groups engaged in project work. Delivers projects with cost and schedule certainty; manages and controls costs; manages risk by identifying and mitigating risks.
  • Provides clear, timely and accurate project status reports for management. Prepares reports and presentations to management. Prepares and issues status reports as required. Identifies, makes timely decisions and takes prompt action on project issues that could impact project performance. Promptly communicates issues to the next level of leadership that are outside the authority of capability of the Senior Project Manager to resolve.

  • Coordinates with all functional departments as required to achieve the requirements of the applicable corporate standards and to achieve project budget and timeline including CC&A, and Supply Chain. Monitors contractor performance in the area of project safety, schedule, cost, quality of work and compliance with contractual requirements.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum education required of the position:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Advanced degree preferred.

Minimum experience required of the position:

  • 15+ years of relevant experience in construction management, engineering, and/or power plant operations and maintenance
  • Experience with Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contracts

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position:

  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of Business Process and Management
