Job description

Navient Corporation

This is a hybrid role based in our Herndon, VA office.

The Manager Capital Markets is a hands-on, frontoffice role responsible for executing the company's funding strategy across derivatives, debt issuance, and liquidity management. This role sits at the center of capital markets activity-actively structuring and executing transactions, managing interest rate exposure, and working directly with bank trading desks to manage risk and funding costs.

You'll lead the execution of derivative strategies tied to secured and unsecured funding and existing balance sheet exposures, including real-time monitoring of positions, valuations, and counterparty exposure. You'll also play a key role in bringing transactions to market-working closely with internal partners, banks, and investors to structure and execute ABS, warehouse, and unsecured debt deals from origination through postissuance.

This is a fast-paced, execution-heavy role with direct impact on the business. You'll operate with a high degree of ownership, contributing to lending strategy, pricing, and funding decisions, while partnering with ALCO and senior leadership on liquidity, risk, and capital allocation. Success in this role requires strong technical depth, comfort working in the market in real time, and the ability to operate independently in a high-volume environment.

This is an open level role. Final level will be determined based on the selected candidate's experience and qualifications.

  • Monitor derivative valuation, counterparty exposure, collateral requirements, and related internal and external reporting.

Debt Issuance and Capital Markets Execution

  • Structure, monitor, and support issuance of secured ABS, warehouse facilities, and unsecured debt transactions.
  • Coordinate deal execution with internal stakeholders, bank syndicates, investors, legal counsel, and external advisors.
  • Oversee postissuance compliance, investor reporting, and ongoing performance monitoring.

Lending Program Finance and Funding Economics

  • Provide capital markets-focused financial support for lending programs, including product development and pricing strategy.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, funding efficiency, and spread performance across lending products.
  • Maintain and refine funding cost assumptions to support forecasting, capital planning, and profitability analysis.

Asset & Liability Management, Liquidity, and Capital Oversight

  • Lead enterprise asset and liability management and liquidity risk oversight in alignment with ALCO, Derivative, and Investment Policies.
  • Execute ALCOapproved ALM strategies, including investment portfolio management and interest rate risk positioning.
  • Monitor liquidity, funding capacity, and credit exposure across instruments, structures, and counterparties.
  • Ensure disciplined, timely execution of capital markets transactions in compliance with governance and control requirements.
  • Manage capital return activities and deliver clear reporting to senior leadership and governance committees.

Required Qualifications

  • This role is open to mid- senior level experience; final level will be determined based on the selected candidate's experience and qualifications.
  • Bachelor's Degree- Business Administration, Finance, Economics or similar field.
  • Experience in liquidity portfolio management, derivatives and hedging strategies.
  • Experience in mid to large capital markets.
  • Proven experience in a capital markets environment with emphasis on asset/liability management, debt issuance and derivative execution.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Investor and/or corporate communications.
  • Treasury operations or related banking experience.
  • Actuary experience.

Key Capabilities

  • Demonstrated expertise in capital markets funding, including secured ABS, warehouse facilities, unsecured debt, and related derivatives.
  • Strong understanding of asset and liability management, liquidity risk, interest rate risk, and ALCO governance frameworks.
  • Proven ability to execute capital markets and derivative transactions within approved policies, limits, and control environments.
  • Experience supporting hedge accounting activities, including documentation, effectiveness analysis, and coordination with Accounting.
  • Advanced financial analysis skills, including funding cost analysis, liquidity monitoring, interest rate exposure, and portfolio performance assessment.
  • Ability to prepare clear, concise reporting and analysis for ALCO, senior leadership, FP&A, Accounting, and governance committees.
  • Comfortable presenting to and speaking before large audiences, including employees, senior leadership, and Board or committee members.
