Overview

Senior Quality Engineer is a key role responsible for ensuring high quality of digital and software solutions across the full development lifecycle. In addition to hands-on testing and quality activities, this role leads and develops a team of QA engineers, drives quality standards, and actively contributes to continuous improvement of QA processes, tooling, and delivery practices. 

The Senior Quality Engineer acts as a quality leader within the team, works closely with developers, product and project managers, and ensures that quality is built into products from early design to release. 

Responsibilities

Quality Leadership & Test Strategy 

  • Define, own, and continuously improve QA strategy and testing approach across projects. 
  • Create and maintain test strategies, test plans, and test scenarios aligned with business and technical requirements. 
  • Identify quality risks, gaps in test coverage, and propose mitigation actions. 
  • Act as the main QA point of contact for projects and stakeholders. 

Team Leadership & Development 

  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of QA engineers (manual & automation). 
  • Support onboarding, skill development, and performance growth of QA team members. 
  • Promote QA best practices, standards, and quality mindset across the team. 
  • Foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning within QA. 

Manual & Functional Testing 

  • Oversee and actively participate in functional, integration, regression, and exploratory testing. 
  • Ensure defects are properly identified, documented, prioritised, and communicated. 
  • Validate bug fixes and confirm release readiness. 

Test Automation 

  • Drive and support test automation strategy and implementation. 
  • Review, design, and maintain automated test coverage where appropriate. 
  • Collaborate with developers on automation frameworks and CI/CD integration. 

Release Quality & Risk Management 

  • Assess overall product quality and readiness for release. 
  • Ensure regression coverage  

Collaboration & Communication 

  • Work closely with all stakeholders. 
  • Participate in refinement, planning, and retrospectives. 

Documentation & Continuous Improvement 

  • Maintain clear and structured documentation of test cases, results, defects, and QA processes. 
Qualifications

Experience

  • Proven experience in senior QA / quality engineering role.
  • Demonstrated experience leading QA activities and mentoring or managing QA team members.
  • Strong experience with web applications, software products, or digital platforms.

QA & Testing Knowledge 

  • Strong knowledge of software testing methodologies, test design techniques, and defect management. 
  • Hands-on experience with manual, regression, integration, and exploratory testing. 

Automation & Technical Skills 

  • Experience with test automation tools and frameworks (e.g. Playwright, Cypress, Selenium). 
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and how automated testing fits into delivery processes. 
  • Knowledge of web technologies, browsers, environments, and release workflows. 

Tools & Ways of Working 

  • Jira, Git, Agile environments. 

Communication & Leadership Skills 

  • Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • ISTQB certification or equivalent QA training.  
  • API testing, performance or load testing tools (e.g. JMeter).  
  • Previous experience in leadership role.
