EDUCATION: Bachelorโ€™s Degree and/or Masterโ€™s degree in Architecture

REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATIONS: Professional architectural license preferred, but not required

EXPERIENCE: 6 or more years of experience, with a focus on Sustainability

JacobsWyper Architects (JWA), a full-service design firm serving a variety of market sectors, is seeking a qualified designer who aligns with our values to join our award-winning architectural, planning, and interior design firm. We seek professionals to work across our Philadelphia, PA, Raleigh, NC, and Austin, TX offices who will bring knowledge, experience, and expertise to the role of Project Architect with a strong focus on sustainability. This role will be an integral part of the design team for a broad range of project types for clients in the Science & Tech, Private Commercial, and Education sectors.

The Project Architect - Sustainability will focus on architectural project work in support of sustainable design research and implementation.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Sustainability Expertise

  • Lead sustainable design concepts, strategies, and implementation of concepts within a project.
  • Assist with client coordination to determine project sustainability goals, analyzing project designs to identify sustainable design recommendations.
  • Engage project team via workshops, goal setting sessions including preparation and facilitation, etc.
  • Manage/coordinate/implement sustainable building rating systems and project experience in the management of sustainability certification such as LEED.
  • Facilitate the work of the certification over the duration of the project, including the preparation and submission of certification documentation.
Other Critical Parts of the Job
  • Collaborate on all phases of a project, from concept to close-out, with proven expertise on projects of various scales and technical complexities.
  • Supervise small to medium teams while producing, delegating, and coordinating the work of internal support and external consultants.
  • Collaborate and contribute to construction document production.
  • Conduct preliminary reviews of all drawings, specifications, code analysis, material selections, and specifications before finalizing with the Project Manager or Partner-In-Charge.
  • Lead client meetings and regularly interface with clients and consultants.
  • Meet with the Project Manager or the Partner-In-Charge on a regular basis to ensure projects are executed according to clients' goals and expectations.
  • Communicate staffing deficiencies and needs to the Project Manager or Partner-In-Charge.
  • Manage the required scope of work and ensure the team's execution of the work in an efficient and thorough manner.
  • Identify and employ methods for improving the quality of documentation for the firm to mitigate risk.
  • Manage project schedules and deliverables.
  • Advocate for teamwork, superior client service, and design excellence. Encourage team members and consultants to keep these as a priority throughout the duration of a project.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Project experience with clients in sectors including Pharmaceutical, Biopharma & Biotech, and other Science & Tech Industries is preferred but not required
  • Substantial knowledge of sustainable design concepts, strategies, and implementation and the ability to teach these to less experienced staff
  • Professional sustainability credentials such as a LEED AP or credentials in another rating system (WELL, AP, LFA, etc.)
  • Passion and enthusiasm for sustainable design. Ability to engage others in thoughtful discussion about sustainability and have experience supporting this through educational activities, career pathway, and professional credentials
  • 5+ years of experience in an architecture office with at least 2 years of experience of sustainability consulting
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and skilled in managing large amounts of information with the ability to use sound and independent judgment
  • Proficient knowledge and use of building and life safety code
  • Proven ability to support/lead sustainable design consulting during the concept, design, implementation, and construction phases
  • Willingness to self-educate and educate others about sustainable design strategies and tools
  • Proven ability to lead the design, documentation, and construction administration process
  • Proficiency in Revit
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) is a plus
