In the role of Transportation Utility Project Manager/Team Lead, we'll count on you to:
- Directly supervise a team of 5-10 utility staff, including goal-setting, performance management, annual reviews, corrective actions, retention initiatives and career planning
- Serve as a key decision-maker for staffing assignments, project execution strategies, schedules, and budget adjustments within defined authority levels
- Direct and coordinate work of single or multidiscipline teams to perform on a variety of projects for numerous clients
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and inclusive team culture aligned with HDR values
- Project Management: Manage utility related projects throughout the project's lifecycle (from development & initiation to close-out)
- Be responsible for supporting multidiscipline projects and leading projects with complex utility regulatory, stakeholder and technical environments, leading numerous project staff
- Supervise, oversee, and manage staff's work products and deliverables with direct training and guidance
- Coordinate staff resources across various projects and priorities concurrently, and manage utilization
- Conduct work sessions for on-time deliverable development in conjunction with other staff and stakeholders, troubleshooting for and resolving team hurdles
- Coordinate staffing and workload through entire project life cycle, and ensure completion of deliverables on schedule
- Track financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust work effort with team to ensure that work is completed within parameters of agreed-to budget and schedule
- Work with our Accounting for invoicing and financial projections, and report to our Operational and Business leadership in periodic project reviews
- Work with Transportation Utility Section Lead on staff development plans, project planning, resource planning, populating staffing tools, approving direct report timesheets, prioritizing team initiatives and goals, and managing in office team meetings
- Perform recruiting, training, work planning, coaching, and to further strengthen the team
- Supporting Marketing efforts and Area Transportation Utility Section Lead with support on marketing plans, strategic pursuits, proposal write-ups, establishing and maintaining client relationships, project performance, and long term client satisfaction to market utility services to clients externally and within HDR
- Opportunity for influence and decision making on team building direction, growth, and marketing pursuits
- Implement QA/QC procedures
- Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- TxDOT Utility Precertification
- PMP certification
- 10 years related transportation utility industry experience
- A minimum 5 years in supervising and management experience
- A minimum 5 years Project Management experience
- Experience in leading teams, recruiting, coaching and mentoring staff
- Ability to read and understand civil transportation engineering design plans
- Ability to read and understand utility installation and adjustment plans
- Preference given to candidates that are local to Austin/Round Rock, TX
- Marketing experience, including development of proposals
- Contracting experience, including developing scope and fees, sub-contractor contracts, utility reimbursement agreements, occupancy and use agreements, etc.
- Basic understanding of utility related real estate principles and the ability to read and understand easements, deeds, legal descriptions and general documents associated with property rights
- Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu, experience in AutoCAD or MicroStation
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
- Position requires strong communication, both verbal and written, organization skills, attention to detail, scheduling and problem-solving skills

- Industry involvement experience or interest, such as with ASCE, UESI, CECON, TxDOT Utility Week, etc.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- 7 years related experience inclusive of a minimum 2 years experience in project management
- Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
- MS Office and MS Project experience is required
- Demonstrated leadership skills
