Job description

Project Manager / Detailer / Estimator – Steel Fabrication (Job Shop Environment)

📍 Kenosha, WI | 💰 $65K–$85K

I’m partnering with a long-standing, highly respected steel fabrication company in the Midwest to identify a hands-on Project Manager / Detailer / Estimator who thrives in a job shop environment and enjoys owning work from concept through production.

This organization has been operating for over a century and has built a strong reputation delivering custom fabrication, plate work, and structural components to a loyal customer base. This role sits at the center of operations—bridging customer requirements with shop execution.

🔧 What You’ll Own

  • Manage 3–4 key customer relationships end-to-end
  • Interpret drawings and create detailed fabrication packages
  • Lead material takeoffs, BOM development, and quoting
  • Act as the liaison between customers and the shop floor
  • Track work through cutting, fabrication, and welding processes
  • Partner closely with production and purchasing to keep projects moving

🧠 What They’re Looking For

  • Experience in a job shop or custom fabrication environment
  • Strong detailing and drawing interpretation skills
  • Hands-on background with BOMs, takeoffs, and estimating
  • Familiarity with structural steel (plate, beams, angles, etc.)
  • CAD experience (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Advanced Steel, ProNest, or similar)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while staying connected to the shop

🌟 Why This Role Stands Out

  • High-impact position with direct visibility to ownership
  • Opportunity to own customer relationships and projects end-to-end
  • Blend of project management + estimating + shop interaction
  • Work alongside a tenured industry expert (25+ years) for onboarding support
  • Stable, 100+ year-old company with strong repeat business
  • Varied, custom work—not a repetitive production environment

👥 The Environment

  • Tight-knit, hands-on team
  • High accountability, strong collaboration between office and shop
  • Values practical problem-solvers who show up and deliver

If you’re someone who understands fabrication at a practical level and enjoys being close to the work—not just behind a desk—this is a strong opportunity to step into a role with real ownership and visibility.
