What is project management?

Project management is the process of planning, organizing, and overseeing the completion of specific projects within an organization. It involves setting clear goals, allocating resources, managing budgets, and ensuring that project milestones are met on time and within scope. Project managers coordinate teams, handle risks, and communicate with stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery. Effective project management helps organizations achieve their objectives efficiently and with high quality results.

What qualifications does a project management need?

A project manager typically needs a bachelor's degree in a related field such as business, engineering, or information technology. Professional certifications like PMP (Project Management Professional) or CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management) are highly valued. Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills, along with experience in project planning and use of tools like MS Project or Jira, are also important.

What is a project manager?

Project management jobs are crucial to businesses completing projects in a timely and cost-effective manner. As a project management professional, your job duties include planning workflows and scheduling the checkpoints of a project, ensuring the project stays on budget and meets the deadline, documenting every aspect of a project, and handling the supervision of the team of employees working on a project. You must be an effective communicator to liaise with different departments and teams. You can find project management jobs in engineering, aerospace, consulting, pharmaceuticals, and in almost every major industry.

What are common challenges faced by project managers when leading cross-functional teams, and how can they be addressed?

Project managers often encounter challenges like miscommunication, conflicting priorities, and varying work styles when coordinating cross-functional teams. To address these, it's important to establish clear communication channels, set well-defined goals, and foster a collaborative environment. Regular check-ins and transparent progress updates help align team members and ensure accountability. Additionally, understanding each department's unique perspective enables the project manager to anticipate and resolve conflicts proactively.

We specialize in working diligently and collaboratively with our clients to achieve long-lasting and impactful results across numerous business functions. We draw upon decades of project experience to deliver customized solutions to our clients’ most complex challenges.

We are a fast-growing organization, currently seeking a Consultant to be a part of our high-achieving, diverse, innovating team.

The Opportunity

This is not an entry-level role. We are looking for a motivated professional with 3-5 years of hands-on experience in project management, project controls, or a related field, who is ready to grow within a fast-paced consulting environment.
As a Consultant, you will work alongside senior consultants and project teams to support the planning, execution, and delivery of client engagements across a range of industries and project types. You will bring a working knowledge of project management principles and practices, and a desire to deepen your consulting expertise in a structured, client-facing environment.
The ideal candidate is someone who has built a solid foundation in project management and is looking for the next step; moving from execution support into a broader consulting and client delivery role. You bring analytical rigor, strong communication skills, and a proactive mindset that allows you to anticipate project needs and contribute meaningfully from day one.

This is a full-time, in-office, non-remote position based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Key Responsibilities:

Business Impact and Delivery

  • Develop and communicate detailed business impacts stemming from the implementation of client solutions.

  • Conduct research and analyze data to identify key insights, learnings, and business opportunities.

  • Facilitate stakeholder meetings to define project requirements and ensure alignment with client objectives.

  • Lead the preparation of reports, timelines, and presentations to articulate project progress and outcomes to clients, management, and other stakeholders.

Project Execution and Collaboration

  • Work closely with internal teams to understand technical and business requirements, ensuring smooth project execution.

  • Lead modules of project work, including the analysis of client environments and the development of modernization strategies and project plans.

  • Monitor project scope, timelines, and quality to ensure deliverables meet expectations.

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to identify, allocate, and manage resources.

Training and Change Management

  • Deliver end-user training to facilitate the adoption of deployed solutions.

  • Guide stakeholders in transitioning to new systems, processes, and procedures through structured workshops.

  • Provide support and recommendations to clients for successful organizational change management.

Client Engagement

  • Build and maintain positive client relationships, serving as a trusted advisor throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Respond promptly to client inquiries, addressing concerns and recommending solutions.

  • Actively participate in client meetings, presenting updates, solutions, and strategic recommendations.

Internal Contributions

  • Contribute to the development and writing of client proposals.

  • Participate in mentoring and learning initiatives to support the growth of the organization.

  • Take on special assignments as requested by senior management.

Requirements
Experience & Education

  • 3-5 years of professional experience in project management, project controls, consulting, or a closely related field. This is not an entry-level position; practical, hands-on experience is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Project Management, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies and frameworks.
  • Prior experience in a client-facing or professional services environment is a strong asset.
  • Experience in energy, infrastructure, capital projects, or regulated industries is an asset but not required.

Skills & Competencies
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to gather, interpret, and synthesize information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; confident contributing to client presentations and reports.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Experience with project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, Smartsheet, or similar) is a plus.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
