Position Overview
The Project Manager is responsible for managing industrial fabrication projects from project award through engineering, procurement, fabrication, quality assurance, delivery, and project closeout. This position serves as the primary liaison between clients, engineering teams, fabrication shop personnel, vendors, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contractual and quality requirements.
The Project Manager is responsible for project planning, scheduling, procurement coordination, financial tracking, risk management, customer communications, and overall project execution while supporting operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
  • Develop project execution plans, work breakdown structures (WBS), fabrication schedules, and project reporting metrics
  • Review project specifications, engineering drawings, customer requirements, and quality standards to define project scope and execution strategy
  • Coordinate project handoff from estimating and sales teams through fabrication and delivery
  • Lead project kickoff meetings and establish communication plans with customers and internal stakeholders
  • Monitor project schedules, fabrication milestones, and deliverables to ensure on-time completion
  • Identify project risks and implement corrective actions when schedule, budget, or quality objectives are impacted
  • Manage project closeout activities, including final documentation, customer acceptance, and lessons learned
  • Review project estimates and proposals to understand scope, budgets, labor requirements, material costs, and project risks
  • Support contract review activities and ensure compliance with contractual requirements
  • Establish and maintain project budgets, forecasts, and cost tracking systems
  • Monitor project financial performance, including labor costs, material expenditures, subcontractor costs, invoicing, and revenue recognition
  • Process and manage change orders in accordance with customer contracts and company procedures
  • Prepare regular project status reports for customers and company leadership
  • Coordinate procurement activities to support fabrication schedules and project requirements
  • Monitor material deliveries and supplier performance to prevent project delays
  • Collaborate with purchasing, inventory, and warehouse personnel to ensure material availability
  • Support subcontractor selection, scope development, and performance monitoring
  • Assist in resolving material shortages, delivery issues, and supply chain challenges
  • Coordinate fabrication activities with shop supervisors, production personnel, and department managers
  • Monitor fabrication progress and production schedules to ensure alignment with project milestones
  • Track labor productivity, fabrication status, and project performance metrics
  • Ensure fabrication work is completed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and customer requirements
  • Coordinate production priorities and communicate schedule updates to internal and external stakeholders
  • Support resolution of manufacturing and production issues impacting project execution
  • Ensure compliance with company quality programs and customer specifications
  • Coordinate project quality documentation, inspections, testing requirements, and customer submittals
  • Support development and submission of welding procedure specifications (WPS), inspection reports, and quality records as required
  • Promote adherence to company safety policies and fabrication shop safety requirements
  • Participate in quality reviews, audits, and corrective action activities
  • Serve as the primary customer contact throughout project execution
  • Conduct regular project review meetings with customers and internal stakeholders
  • Provide timely communication regarding project status, schedule updates, and project challenges

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Manufacturing, Business, or related field preferred
  • 3-7 years of project management experience in fabrication, manufacturing, industrial construction, structural steel, pipe fabrication, pressure vessels, process equipment, or related industries
  • Experience managing project budgets, schedules, procurement activities, and customer relationships
  • Understanding of fabrication shop operations and manufacturing processes
  • Strong knowledge of fabrication processes, welding operations, production planning, and material management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Customer-focused with the ability to build and maintain professional relationships
  • Understanding of project financial management, cost control, and change management processes
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems and fabrication tracking software
  • Familiarity with project scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, Procore, or similar platforms
  • PMP certification or progress toward certification preferred
  • Experience with structural steel, pressure vessels, process piping, skidded systems, or industrial equipment fabrication preferred
  • Knowledge of AWS, ASME, API, AISC, or other applicable fabrication and welding standards preferred
