Harvard University Housing & Real Estate (HUHRE) is a department within Harvard Campus Services, a multi-department organization within Harvard's Central Administration. HUHRE supports the University's educational and research efforts by offering Harvard affiliates a wide array of housing and real estate services in University-owned properties which are conveniently located, competitively priced, and professionally managed to residents and tenants alike. HUHRE serves as the asset manager for Harvard's portfolio of commercial spaces and centrally stewarded institutional assets, overseeing the leasing and operations of University-owned institutional space for Harvard affiliates and commercial spaces for rent by private retail tenants within the Cambridge, and Greater Boston area.
HUHRE manages a broad range of initiatives and assets to help support the Harvard community. These include, but are not limited to:
- Leasing, managing, and renewing Harvard-owned housing as well as Harvard offices/institutional spaces, and commercial real estate portfolios
- Leading community engagement and programming opportunities
- Managing relationships with external partners and vendors
- Working within the larger University community to develop and coordinate University-wide policies and strategies
- Supporting new University housing and real estate development projects across the Cambridge and Greater Boston area

The Asset Management Analyst delivers comprehensive real estate asset management, financial analysis, and project execution across a diverse portfolio of commercial properties within the Harvard Housing and Real Estate portfolio. Responsibilities include decision making and implementing asset management initiatives, building and maintaining financial models to evaluate cash flow and leasing scenarios; providing input on acquisitions and dispositions through underwriting and due diligence; and broadly assisting the development group.
The position also requires close collaboration across the HUHRE organization, development of standardized processes, and clear communication of insights through presentations and reports to senior leadership. Additional duties involve self-directed market research, lease administration, and contributing to broader departmental initiatives that support overall portfolio performance and strategic goals.
Job-Specific Responsibilities:
Project Management:
- Develop, prioritize, and implement recommendations for University leadership arising from ongoing asset management analysis (e.g., financial performance, utilization, and market positioning) to drive the economic performance and long-term value of the University's real estate portfolio.
- Establish, document, and refine scalable asset management policies, procedures, and standards that can be easily replicated across the University's diverse real estate holding, ensuring consistent practices.
- Serve as the primary connector between HUHRE Operations, Leasing, and Finance-owning cross-functional workflows, resolving intersecting priorities, and leading cross-team initiatives that align asset strategies, operational execution, and financial objectives across the portfolio.
Asset Management Analysis:
- Build financial models for multi-tenanted commercial properties to project cash flows, expenses, and net operating income over various time horizons to be shared with the leadership team.
- Perform financial analyses for tenants comparing commercial lease deals with varying rental rates, lengths of lease terms, free rent periods, construction build-out costs, and other expenses to be shared with the leadership team, including apple-to-apple comparisons to help determine best value.
- Maintain analytical tools and processes to best ensure delivery of thorough, actionable and reliable analytical studies and recommendations.
Acquisition and Disposition Support:
- Analyze potential acquisition and disposition opportunities across multiple asset types including office, retail, residential (including affordable housing) and lab spaces to support decision-making.
- Perform scenario analysis and development feasibility studies analysis for the current portfolio and potential acquisition sites based on research and data.
- Assist with due diligence efforts for portfolio acquisitions and dispositions, including data gathering, leases, service contracts, financial information, etc.
Presentation and Communication:
- Develop presentations analyzing and interpreting financial data and drawing actionable conclusions to senior members of the HRE team and university leadership.
- Prepare economic analyses of lease terms compared to market and/or pro forma projections for leadership decision making.
- Create quarterly and annual reports for internal university stakeholders, including the HUHRE Year in Review document.
Departmental Support:
- Research general market and economic conditions - track market vacancies, absorption, rents, new construction - and summarize and disseminate developing trends that can inform leasing strategy.
- Evaluate competitive buildings, relevant sale & lease comps, economic drivers, historic market rents in support of future planning.
- Other duties related to the advancement of HUHRE goals as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degreerequired.
- Degree in real estate, finance, orrelated field preferred.
- Minimum 3-5years of experience inreal estate, planning, development or related field; related coursework could qualify as experience.
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
- Strong teaming and collaboration skills, including virtual collaboration with colleagues in multiple locations.
- Ability to deliver and interpret qualitative and quantitative research data and synthesize information into meaningful and actionable recommendations and results.
- Proven ability to successfully manage multi-faceted projects in a complex setting.
- Familiarity with a range of real estate asset types including lab, office, residential, hotel and retail / restaurantuses.
- Experience with Commonwealth of Massachusetts and City of Boston or Cambridge permitting processes.
- Strong time management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities & meetdeadlines with keen attention to detail.
- Flexible, composed, and able to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously while confidently interacting with individuals across all levels of the organization and externally.
- Thorough andaccurateand takes ownership of every task assigned, ensuring its successful completion.
- Understands how to communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully.
- Sense of humor.

Work Format Details
This position has been determined by school or unit leaders that some of the duties and responsibilities can be effectively performed at a non-Harvard location. The work schedule and location will be set by the department at its discretion and based upon operational needs. When not working at a Harvard or Harvard-designated location, employees in hybrid positions must work in a Harvard registered state in compliance with the University's Policy on Employment Outside of Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
