Job description

Position Summary
Our Civil Foreman will be located in the field at one of our project sites within the United States. The ideal candidate is a positive force on the jobsite, open to feedback, and eager to learn and develop others. This is a field-based, hands-on leadership position responsible for overseeing civil construction activities associated with utility-scale solar projects. The Civil Foreman supports daily field operations, ensures work is completed safely and efficiently, and leads crews in delivering quality work while maintaining project schedules.
Duties:
  • Site layout using GPS, laser level, and string line
  • Earthwork activities including grading, cut/fill operations, and site preparation
  • Road construction and maintenance
  • Laydown yard construction
  • Excavation and trenching
  • Underground utility installation
  • Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) implementation and compliance
  • Erosion and sediment control installation and maintenance
  • Culvert and drainage system installation
  • Equipment pad construction
  • Concrete foundations and flatwork preparation
  • Aggregate placement and compaction
  • Fine grading and final site stabilization
  • Civil punch list completion
  • Civil QA/QC inspections
  • Reading and interpreting civil drawings, grading plans, and specifications
  • Production tracking and daily reporting
  • Coordination with survey, mechanical, electrical, and subcontractor crews
  • Heavy equipment coordination and safe operation practices

Leadership Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise civil crews while promoting a strong safety culture.
  • Plan daily work activities and assign manpower, equipment, and materials.
  • Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications.
  • Conduct daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and pre-task planning.
  • Coordinate with Superintendents, Project Management, Survey, and other trades to maintain project schedules.
  • Identify and resolve field issues while maintaining quality standards.
  • Complete Tier Boards, production tracking, and required documentation.
  • Mentor and develop crew members through hands-on training and coaching.

Must be able to train others on at least one complete Civil Scope (Earthwork, Underground Utilities, Roads & Drainage, or SWPPP Compliance).
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience as a Civil Foreman or Lead on utility-scale solar, heavy civil, commercial, or industrial construction projects.
  • Experience supervising crews performing earthwork, grading, underground utilities, roads, drainage, and erosion control.
  • Strong understanding of SWPPP (Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan) requirements and environmental compliance.
  • Experience reading and interpreting civil construction drawings and grading plans.
  • Knowledge of GPS layout equipment, laser levels, and surveying practices.
  • Experience coordinating heavy equipment operations including dozers, excavators, graders, rollers, loaders, and skid steers.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and construction best practices.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to accurately complete production tracking and daily field documentation.

Requirements:
  • Able to lift 50+ pounds.
  • Able to perform repetitive physical activities including stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, climbing, and reaching.
  • Able to stand or walk for extended periods.
  • Able to work outdoors in various and often extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, and snow, as safety permits.
  • Comfortable working around heavy equipment, dust, noise, and other construction-related hazards.
  • Able to follow detailed instructions while providing leadership and direction to crews.
  • Strong teamwork, planning, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Models excellence in safety, quality, productivity, attendance, and professionalism.

  • Maintains accurate documentation of field decisions, production tracking, Tier Boards, and daily reports.

Education
  • GED or High School Diploma required.
  • OSHA 30 preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
  • Heavy equipment operation experience is a plus.
  • Previous utility-scale solar civil construction experience strongly preferred.
