Job description

We are seeking a qualified Project Engineer who is responsible for assisting the Project Manager with overseeing the construction process. This position may interact on a single large project or multiple small to mid-sized projects. The position requires strong time management, communication, and client service skills. Individuals must communicate with subcontractors representing Colas Construction's values while maintaining the project budget and timeframe. In the performance of this function, the Project Engineer is responsible to protect and promote the interest of both the business and client in all matters as well as demonstrate the personal characteristics of a mid-level leader. Position may assist with preconstruction efforts related to subcontractor outreach, schedule, logistics, and constructability. The Project Engineer should be able to interpret project plans, specifications, and details for subcontractors and craft persons.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Participate and meaningfully contribute to monthly cost report meetings.
  • Successfully adhere to the project controls procedures to include monthly cost control, pay requests, and cost reporting.
  • Effective expediting of material deliveries.
  • Act as a liaison between the owner, architects, subcontractors, and the company.
  • Coordinate information and documentation from owners and architects to the subcontractors.
  • Process subcontractor submittals - route, review, and approve.
  • Establish handling procedures for electronic documents, including Request for Information (RFI) and correspondence - create, assess, route, and distribute.
  • Obtain and maintain all necessary construction permits and work with the Project Manager for fee payments or recurring permit expenses.
  • Develop business through identifying client needs , identifying Colas Construction opportunity matches, and communicating the value and differentiation of Colas Construction to prospective clients.
  • Proactively review customer feedback, build a customer centric mentality within teams, and demonstrate.
  • Knowledge of different market sectors and delivery systems to ensure positive customer relations.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Progressive construction industry experience supporting commercial construction projects, with experience level dependent on role classification and project complexity.
  • Understanding construction methods, scheduling, project controls, subcontractor coordination, and construction documentation processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, Procore, Bluebeam, Smartsheet, Zoom, Revit, Assemble, and related construction technology platforms.
  • Familiarity with construction accounting systems and financial management principles preferred.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred, with the ability to obtain OSHA 30 certification within one year of hire.
  • Current driver's license required.
  • Team members of the Operations department are required to work on-site, Monday through Friday. In-office hours may vary

This position is primarily project site based and typically works Monday through Friday, averaging 8-10 hours per day based on business needs, project type, or phase.
While performing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, communicate, and use standard computer and office equipment. Occasional repetitive hand and wrist movement may be required. The employee may occasionally lift or carry items up to 20 pounds.
