How does a project engineer project manager balance technical tasks with leadership responsibilities on a project?

Project Engineer Project Managers are often required to oversee both the technical execution and overall coordination of a project. This means they must allocate time for hands-on engineering tasks, such as reviewing designs or resolving technical issues, while also managing schedules, budgets, and communication with stakeholders. Effective candidates use strong organizational skills and delegation, relying on their team’s expertise for technical details while focusing on big-picture management and client relations. Balancing these aspects is crucial for ensuring project success within scope, time, and cost constraints.

Typically, a project manager earns higher salaries than a project engineer because they have greater responsibilities, oversee multiple projects, and require more experience and leadership skills. Position Title: Senior Project Engineer – Engineered Solutions

Overview:
This role supports the cross-functional delivery of engineered-to-order (ETO) solutions, working closely with outside sales, vendors, and customers. The primary responsibility is to design, estimate, and manage custom sanitary processing systems, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualize and design large-scale sanitary manufacturing and cleaning systems, particularly in the food, beverage, dairy, personal care, or pharmaceutical industries.

  • Evaluate customer opportunities in collaboration with the sales team, aligning them with business objectives and developing tailored solutions.

  • Ensure safety protocols and certifications are maintained and promoted both in the field and in-house.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (Master's preferred).

  • 10+ years of experience with engineered-to-order or project-based custom systems.

  • PE license preferred.

  • Strong background in sanitary fluid processing and related industries.

  • Proficient in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar design and drafting tools.

  • Ability to create and interpret P&IDs.

  • Skilled in project management, cost estimation, proposal development, and customer engagement.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, ERP systems, and project management tools.

  • Willing to travel up to 35% to customer and vendor locations.

  • Comfortable in a culture that values collaboration, accountability, and adaptability.

This position offers the opportunity to lead highly customized engineering projects from concept to completion, making a significant impact through technical expertise and cross-functional collaboration.
