The Wooten Company's Hickory, NC Regional Office is seeking a team-focused, innovative Civil Project Engineer with strong technical experience to join our expanding Civil Engineering team.

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated civil engineer with a strong background in successfully completing water, wastewater and / or storm water projects for local governments and private clients. You are responsible, work well with a team and communicate well with people of varying backgrounds and experiences.  You are hungry to learn and grow professionally in your field.


What will you be doing? 

Candidates can expect to work with utility owners, such as local governments and municipalities, in the delivery of critical water and sewer services, along with other community facilities. The person in this role can make a significant community impact by supporting our clients as they carry out their to mission efficiently own, operate, and maintain public utilities on behalf of their customers / residents. Candidates can expect to be continually challenged to independently design projects and lead a team of colleagues to develop solutions that meet our client's needs, using the right mix of advanced technology and historically successful measures, while working within the financial boundaries of the project stakeholders. 


Who will you be working with? 

The Civil Project Engineer can expect cross functional collaboration across all teams and specialties, providing an opportunity to interact with The Wooten Company colleagues in both North and South Carolina. Additionally, this person will regularly work with municipal and private clients, as well as state and federal regulatory agencies. For the right person with a desire to grow professionally, this role is a good opportunity to obtain a depth and breadth of civil engineering ability and to contribute to the growing presence of Wooten in the North Carolina region. 


Where will you be working? 

This regional office is in the lovely town of Hickory, NC, nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. In the 1850s, beneath a huge hickory tree, Henry Robinson built a tavern of logs, which eventually became the City of Hickory in 1889. Hickory is a bustling small town with a lot of Southern charm, situated conveniently between the larger cities of Charlotte, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and Asheville. With a thriving artist community, plenty of outdoor parks, historical architecture, and great cost of living, the Catawba County region is not only a great place to work, but a great place to call home.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assist with the design of water, stormwater, and wastewater utilities with cradle-to-grave competency including: Preliminary Engineering Report, and New and Rehabilitation Designs
  • Design of water distribution systems and / or sanitary sewer collection
  • Understand and interpret federal, state and local agency regulations, primarily concerning municipal water and wastewater projects.
  • Ability to technically lead a project team with minimal oversight.
  • Ability to be involved in presentations to clients / attend meetings utilizing good communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to direct others to help complete project / tasks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S. Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • Experience with water, sewer, and / or storm water experience as a Professional Engineer (PE) in a consulting engineering environment 
  • NC licensed Professional Engineer (or if licensed outside NC, ability to obtain NC license within one year)
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (O365) applications (Outlook, Excel, Word)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Managerial experience and / or desire to grow into a leadership role
  • Experience with design of water distribution systems and / or sanitary sewer collection
  • Project Manual Preparation including Construction Contract Documents and Technical Specifications
  • Coordination with other disciplines as necessary including mechanical, electrical, and structural engineers.
  • Project Advertisement, Bidding, and Contracting
  • Familiarity with construction administration of municipal utility projects
  • Experience with state and federal funding applications for municipal utility projects
  • Proficiency using AutoCAD (Civil3D) a plus
  • Experience with hydraulic modeling is a plus
