BKF is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead and grow our Land Development practice in the Northern California region. This role is ideal for a California licensed P.E. with a strong track record of business development and successful delivery of complex land development projects. The Senior Project Manager will provide technical and strategic leadership, oversee projects from kick off through construction support, mentor staff, and play a key role in expanding BKF’s land development presence across the region.

Responsibilities

  • Lead planning, design, and project management efforts for a wide range of land development projects, including residential, commercial, mixed-use, industrial, and infill developments
  • Manage projects through all phases, including feasibility, entitlement, due diligence, grading and drainage design, utility design, permitting, and construction support
  • Coordinate with internal multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders, including developers, architects, surveyors, and reviewing agencies, to ensure successful project delivery
  • Guide projects through local, regional, and state permitting processes, addressing agency comments and regulatory requirements
  • Apply in-depth knowledge of land development standards, zoning codes, and site development regulations to inform project decisions
  • Mentor and develop staff through technical guidance, project oversight, and career support
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, representing BKF in meetings and maintaining strong, long-term relationships
  • Support business development efforts by identifying new opportunities, contributing to proposals, and expanding existing client relationships
  • Strengthen BKF’s land development presence in the Bay Area through strategic engagement, market awareness, and industry involvement

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in California required
  • Minimum 15 years of experience managing land development projects through the full project lifecycle, including planning, entitlement, design, permitting, and construction support
  • Demonstrated success in business development, client relationship management, and strategic growth within the land development market
  • Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring skills, with experience leading multidisciplinary project teams
  • Proficiency with project management tools and extensive experience with land development design using AutoCAD and Civil 3D (grading, drainage, utilities, and site layout)
  • Ability and willingness to travel between offices and client sites as needed

Physical Demands: Must be able to regularly talk, hear and operate a computer, keyboard and mouse and occasionally lift, pull/push and carry up to 20 pounds with accommodations.

Work Conditions: Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting. Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. Travel to other BKF locations and client sites may be required.
