Role Description: Huitt-Zollars, Inc. is seeking a Civil Engineer – Project Manager with a minimum of 6 – 8 years of experience located in Seattle, Washington. This Project Manager position should have experience in the management and design of a wide range of land development, transportation, and public works projects for various industrial, commercial and/or residential development projects. Duties include but are not limited to initial project and code research, civil engineering design, plan and specification production, management of production staff, client and stakeholder coordination, construction administration and project close out, business development and project pursuit efforts.

Duties:

  • Function as a Lead Civil Engineer in the development of design schematics, construction plans, specifications and estimates.
  • Coordinate with and lead EITs, designers, and drafters.
  • Prepare technical engineering reports and memoranda.
  • Research jurisdictional requirements for appropriate incorporation into design and construction drawings.
  • Prepare proposal/contract documents, project work plans, and schedules.
  • Prepare design and construction drawings using AutoCAD and information obtained from research activities.
  • Complete projects within client specifications, budgets and schedules.
  • Coordinate client management and marketing efforts for future work.
  • Conduct site visits and document findings.
  • Work directly with clients for project coordination and execution.
  • Lead a team of engineers/designers with varied levels of experience/expertise and appropriately allocate resources to execute project tasks.
  • Attend, record, and distribute meeting minutes and manage general project correspondence.
  • Write or prepare graphic materials for presentations or documents.
  • Support preparation of project proposals, scopes, budgets, and manage execution and tracking of projects.
  • Track and update project performance metrics.
  • Assist with preparation of invoicing documentation and manage ARs.

  • Takes active steps in the pursuit of winning new business or additional opportunities with existing clients and may be responsible for a stated portion of office sales goal. Assists and/or leads team in pursuit of new work (repeat work, SOQ, and Proposals). Develops and/or executes project Win strategies.
  • Successfully and consistently functions in a project and team lead role as Project Manager.
  • Competent, knowledgeable, service leader in the market(s) they serve.
  • Understands and follows HZ QMS and Quality initiatives. Ensures quality control measures are being adhered to on projects and daily operations.
  • Follows comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and prepares proper work planning for a project. Ensures proper staff is assigned on projects.
  • Reviews project reports and performance metrics to track project progress and budget. Leads successful projects (profit, on-schedule, quality, satisfied client). Verifies client satisfaction routinely and shares feedback with team.
  • Proactively works with PIC to strategize resolving issues that impact project performance. Reviews progress with PIC at least monthly (including & completes vs. % spent) and adheres to the weekly rhythm.
  • Successfully contributes to the overall profitability and financial performance on projects.
  • Oversees staff deliverables and production assigned to their projects to ensure client, legal, and company requirements are met.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed PE in Washington State
  • Minimum of 6-8 years of experience
  • Experience with producing accurate and complete construction plans, specifications, and reports

  • Excellent verbal and written skills, communicating engineering information clearly and concisely
  • Ability to train/mentor staff and review work for quality assurance
  • Solid leadership and management skills, self-motivated, and possess a strong ability to meet deadlines, satisfy clients, and solve complex problems
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil3D, and MicroStation are all a plus
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Willingness/ability to assume increased responsibilities when presented
  • Consistently deliver proactive communication with clients. When client issues arise, address, or expeditiously escalate to discipline lead
  • Develop relationships with clients that allows for ease in communications and problem solving
  • Troubleshoot issues and recommend solutions, effectively implement and document for internal and external stakeholders

Annual Base Salary Range: $137,000-$148,000 and up depending on experience and qualifications of the selected candidate(s). The expected salary range for this position is displayed in accordance with the Washington Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. The final agreed upon compensation is based on the success candidate's individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and consideration to participate in our discretionary annual bonus incentive program.
