Project Engineer Water/Wastewater Construction
Locations: San Francisco Bay Area or Sacramento, California
Salary: $80,000 - $120,000
Our client is an established construction contractor specializing in general contracting and self-performed subcontracting for complex water, wastewater and infrastructure projects. The company has a strong presence throughout California and a travelling federal team delivering projects across the United States. They are seeking Project Engineers to support current and upcoming opportunities across the Bay Area and Sacramento regions.
Must Haves
  • Project Engineer, Field Engineer or construction coordination experience with a general or specialty contractor.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications and contract documents.
  • Experience managing RFIs, submittals, procurement logs, meeting minutes and project documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to coordinate with field teams, subcontractors, suppliers and project stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software.
  • Ability to work from project sites across the Bay Area or Sacramento region.

Nice to Haves
  • Water or wastewater construction experience.
  • Experience with treatment plants, pump stations, process piping or municipal infrastructure.
  • Background supporting self-performed civil, concrete, mechanical or piping work.
  • Experience on public works, municipal, state or federal projects.
  • Familiarity with Procore, Bluebeam, Primavera P6 or similar software.

Responsibilities
  • Support Project Managers and Superintendents with the planning and execution of water, wastewater and infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare, track and distribute RFIs, submittals, change documentation and other project records.
  • Review drawings, specifications and submittals to identify conflicts, missing information and constructability concerns.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers and internal teams to maintain project schedules and resolve outstanding issues.
  • Assist with procurement by tracking material releases, equipment deliveries and long-lead items.
  • Maintain project logs, meeting minutes, correspondence, daily reports and document-control systems.
  • Assist with quantity takeoffs, cost tracking, forecasting and change-order preparation.
  • Support the development of project schedules, short-term look-ahead plans and progress updates.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing and quality-control documentation.
  • Work closely with field leadership to ensure crews have current drawings, approved submittals, materials and required information.
  • Participate in owner, engineer, subcontractor and internal project meetings.
  • Help monitor subcontractor performance, manpower, progress and compliance with project requirements.
  • Support project safety, quality and environmental programs.
  • Assist with commissioning, startup, punch-list completion, closeout documentation and final turnover.
  • Build knowledge of water and wastewater construction while developing toward increased project management responsibility.
