Position Overview

The Project Engineer will support construction activities by planning, organizing, and implementing those processes to manage and communication information and project KPIs (i.e., project controls, engineering interface, subcontract and materials management, purchasing, contract administration, formal communications, monthly reporting and scheduling). The role will provide project support to a Project Manager on larger projects and manage technical and administrative staff to facilitate project management services.

Mass. Electric Construction Company, a subsidiary of Kiewit Corporation, is one of North America's premier electrical contractors. We specialize in providing a wide range of electrical construction and maintenance services for large-scale and complex electrical systems. Our expertise includes bridges, commercial and federal buildings, power and energy, renewable energy, special systems and water-related infrastructure. 

Location

This position is based out of our Vancouver, WA or Irvine, CA office.

Responsibilities
  • Develop complete understanding of contract plans and specifications.
  • Review, analyze and resolve design/construction problems, discrepancies and interferences with the design team, project leadership, Client, and contractors as required.
  • Ensure that all project engineering activities comply with company and contract requirements and support the development and maintenance of the overall construction schedule.
  • Create and manage a contract execution plan.
  • Provide technical support for construction effort including participation in design interpretation, application of construction methods, identification, resolution and documentation of design conflicts, constructability reviews, etc.; all to help determine the most cost effective and schedule efficient method of construction.
  • Develop, implement, and administer document control program. Overall responsibility for maintaining all design documents to be current with onsite construction operations, perform periodic reviews to ensure the program is robust and effective.
  • Responsible for submittal tracking, project logs; all processing, coordination, and documentation as required to facilitate project. Maintain official project log and documentation.
  • Represent company as required during design review meeting with the design team, project coordination meetings with contractors, etc. Assist in preparing special reports, studies and etc. as requested by client or in support of project management.
  • Assist project leadership with development of scopes of work to create and confirm subcontracts and vendor purchase orders.
  • Oversee the development and periodic updates to the project master schedule using appropriate techniques and scheduling software with input from other project management personnel.
  • Oversee Contract Administration team, review revisions to drawings and contract documents for change of conditions; quantify the impact of changes and review with supervisor; distribute new issues to field.
  • Prepare monthly cost projections using information generated from project management systems and prepare quarterly cash flow projections.
  • Help drive the company's environmental health and safety programs at the project level, driving a safety-oriented approach to work.
  • Manage and support the project team including direct reports and others as needed
  • Develop and manage the contract closeout plan and deliverables. Manage packaging and submission for successful and on time completion of contracts.
  • Successfully perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

   Bachelor's degree in a construction-related field or equivalent experience and education in project or field engineering 
    7+ years' experience in the construction or engineering field
   Proven abilities and skills in the following: leadership and management of people, communication (verbal and written), planning, organization, delegation as well as teaching and mentoring
   Ability to set standards of excellence in leadership, safety, quality, and productivity for his/her subordinates.
   Must demonstrate excellent team leadership and management skills
   Proficiency in managing project engineering and related functions and activities
   Working knowledge and ability to direct the operation of at least the following management systems: accounts payable/accounts receivable, materials control, estimating, job cost updates and subcontracts

Base Compensation: $161,000/yr - $168,000/yr
