Job description

The Project Engineer will be a key player in overseeing the technical aspects of car wash construction projects, with a strong emphasis on permitting. Reporting directly to the Director of Construction, this position will manage the permitting process from initiation to final approval, ensuring all required permits are obtained to move projects forward. In addition to overseeing the permitting process, the Project Engineer will also coordinate with the construction team, vendors, and cross-functional departments to ensure that site assessments, construction schedules, and on site issues are efficiently handled. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction management, permitting processes, and problem-solving abilities to handle complex commercial construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
  • Utility Design & Planning: Coordinate with architects and contractors to align designs with existing conditions and ensure that initial designs do not pose any issues with utility providers.
  • Permitting: Lead the permitting process across all jurisdictions, securing approvals on time and resolving regulatory issues to avoid project delays.
  • Construction Oversight: Monitor construction progress conduct site inspections, and ensure adherence to design specs, schedules, safety, and quality standards.
  • Equipment Integration: Ensure seamless integration of all utilities and coordination with equipment team regarding site readiness for deliveries and installations.
  • Quality & Risk Management: Enforce quality control measures, identify potential risks, and implement corrective actions with General Contractors to maintain project integrity and timelines.
  • Vendor & Contractor Coordination: Help select, manage, and evaluate contractors and vendors. Oversee procurement, deliveries, and on-site execution.
  • Budget & Cost Control: Assist in budget creation and track project costs, approvals, and financial compliance in coordination with the finance team.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate project records and provide regular updates to stakeholders on progress, risks, and changes.
  • Project Closeout: Manage final inspections, punch list resolution, and handoff to Operations with complete documentation and readiness.

Qualifications
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in construction management, project engineering, or a related field, with significant focus on permitting, preferably in commercial construction or the car wash industry.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of construction management processes, ability to read drawings, engineering principles, and construction materials and methods. In-depth experience with the permitting process, zoning laws, and regulations is essential.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience with project management software (e.g., Procore, Smartsheet, MS Project) and construction documentation tools.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong ability to manage and lead teams, coordinate contractors and vendors, and ensure timely completion of construction tasks.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to anticipate and resolve construction, permitting, and engineering challenges proactively.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with internal teams, contractors, consultants, governmental agencies, and clients.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to ensure quality control and compliance with project plans, safety protocols, and regulatory standards.
