Job description

The Nuna Group of Companies is now accepting resumes for an  Earthworks Project Manager (internally known as a Project Manager) with large earthworks construction projects experience. Nuna is the largest Inuit-owned heavy civil construction, earthworks and mine construction contractor in Canada. 

The Project Manager, is accountable for directing the activities of a specific project which consists of trades and support personnel. Utilizing your leadership skills and experience in order to direct the work of others and make quick decisions. You must be well-organized and favor safety above everything else

Some Key Responsibilities:

Specific Accountabilities:

SAFETY

  • Ensures all safety policies, provisions and procedures, including safety meetings and investigations, are carried out as prescribed, and all incidents and accidents are reported to appropriate individuals in a timely manner.
  • Champions the process for incident investigations and ensures timely submissions of Loss Control Reports.
  • Ensures legislated unsafe work requirements (right to refuse) are enforced.
  • Ensures compliance to Corporate and client D&A Policies; Ensures Supervisory staff enforce post-incident testing where reasonable or where probable grounds exist.

 LEADERSHIP

  • Acts as a mentor and leader for all subordinate managerial personnel.
  • Champions the disciplined adherence to the Company's Code of Conduct & Ethics, while ensuring compliance to all Safety & Environmental and other applicable policies & expectations.
  • Champions, and facilitates team work and harmony between all staff and crews by promoting and fostering a positive, visible team attitude.
  • Champions a culture of communication, clear accountability and effective documentation.
  • Ensures performance reviews are conducted on a regular basis and career development plans are in place for all divisional staff.
  • Communicates vision, mission, divisional strategy, targets, and successes.
  • Ensure and enforce compliance to all company, client and legislated Safety policies and procedures.

 

PROJECT CONTROLS & SOX

  • Updates and maintains the system of internal controls which have been developed by NAEPI to satisfy Sarbanes-Oxley requirements and other external reporting requirements for the processes which are in their area of responsibility.
  • Works with the Compliance team to ensure that controls are tested in accordance with the requirements on an ongoing basis.
  • Has an awareness of Sarbanes-Oxley legislation.

 EFFECTIVE JOB EXECUTION

  • Provides input to business development including pre-qualifications.   
  • Manages and ensures compliance to Corporate and client policies, procedures, orientations, and pre-site access testing requirements for all new hires.  Reports job fit results.
  • Provides input and direction into bid strategy, including completion of bid reviews, approval and signoff as required.
  • Negotiates contracts, change management and claims.
  • Conducts regular on and off-site project reviews for safety, QA and Operational (KPI) performance.
  • Ensures contract management, billing generation and collection. 
  • Assigns optimal Project Management teams.
  • Ensures accurate and timely reporting of project financials.
  • Represents company at industry associations and major project partnerships.
  • Reports significant project concerns, issues, performance setbacks and achievements to the General Manager.
  • Ensures all safety provisions and procedures are carried out and all incidents and accidents are reported to appropriate individuals. 
  • Provide direction and set production targets for Project Managers/Superintendents.

Qualifications:

Work Experience:

  • Minimum three years’ experience related to construction and/or project management.
  • Industrial construction and/or mining experience required.
  • Experience managing with collective agreements

Education:

  • Post secondary education (Engineering Degree or Technical Diploma) or equivalent experience related to Project Management. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to execute complex construction projects within established timelines and on budget
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of JD Edwards
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective client relationships
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety and Environmental legislation
  • Knowledge of Workers Compensation Board requirements
  • Fundamental understanding of all relevant Employment-related legislation
  • Strong leadership, coaching and mentoring skills
  • Strong organizational skills, including time management, delegation & prioritization skills
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Computer skills including working knowledge of common software applications
  • Knows and understands construction scope and objectives
  • Experience reading drawings and/or interpreting specifications
  • Knowledge of scheduling and planning
  • Demonstrated ability to steward an effective meeting
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage several simultaneous activities, establishing priorities and delegating responsibilities as required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Recent training in First Aid, WHIMIS and CSTS.
