Job description

MacDonald-Bedford LLC is seeking a Project Controls Engineer/Specialist to support complex construction and infrastructure programs, with a focus on cost, schedule, and performance monitoring. This role ensures projects remain on track, within budget, and aligned with client expectations, acting as a key partner to project managers and technical leads.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor project schedules to ensure timely completion and efficient resource allocation.
  • Manage project budgets, including forecasting, cost analysis, variance reporting, and financial controls.
  • Track project progress and generate performance reports, providing accurate status updates to project leadership and stakeholders.
  • Identify and assess project risks, develop mitigation plans, and assist in managing change orders and scope modifications.
  • Perform data analysis and forecasting, providing proactive insights to guide project decisions and ensure successful project delivery.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineering teams, and clients to facilitate informed decision-making based on data-driven insights.
  • Utilize project controls software (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project) to maintain accurate and dynamic project controls documentation.
  • Support both internal reporting obligations and external client communications through well-organized documentation and analysis.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in project controls, cost engineering, scheduling, or a related analytical role.
  • Proficiency with Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and/or other industry-standard project management platforms.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze trends, anticipate risks, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ability to interpret and develop Gantt charts, cost control reports, and cash flow projections.
  • Effective communication skills, capable of translating technical data into actionable project insights for diverse stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail with accurate tracking of project milestones, expenditures, and contract deliverables.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience supporting government or institutional projects (e.g., USACE, GSA, VA, or infrastructure agencies).
  • Familiarity with earned value management (EVM), resource loading, and critical path method (CPM) analysis.
  • Cost engineering certifications (e.g., CCP, PMP) preferred.
  • Experience supporting large-scale infrastructure programs such as transportation, healthcare, energy, or mission-critical facilities.
