Job description

It is the responsibility of this position to design, develop, implement, and support software solutions for gas processing equipment, modular skids, and integrated control systems. This position is responsible for the programming, configuration, testing, and optimization of PLC, HMI, SCADA, DCS, and related automation software for assigned projects. The role works closely with engineering, operations, customers, and vendors to deliver reliable, efficient, and innovative automation solutions. It is the goal of this position to help establish GasTech Engineering as the highest value-added provider of energy equipment solutions in the markets and for the customers we serve.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Responsible for developing, programming, testing, and commissioning PLC, HMI, SCADA, and DCS applications for equipment and systems.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining software functional design specifications, control narratives, cause-and-effect matrices, and programming documentation.
  • Responsible for generation, modification, and validation of control system software for assigned projects.
  • Participate in project proposal preparation, scope definition, and development of automation strategies and control philosophies.
  • Configure communication networks and protocols including Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP, Modbus RTU, OPC, and other industrial communication standards.
  • Assist in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and performance testing of GasTech-manufactured systems in the shop and at customer facilities.
  • Provide field assistance, oversee control system installations, support commissioning activities, and troubleshoot start-up issues.
  • Assist in verification, testing, and checkout of PLC panels, control systems, and software integrations at third-party vendor facilities.
  • Develop and maintain reusable programming standards, software libraries, and best practices to improve project execution efficiency.
  • Collaborate with Instrumentation, Electrical, Mechanical, and Process Engineering teams to ensure seamless integration system controls.
  • Analyze system performance and implement software enhancements to improve reliability, efficiency, and operator experience.
  • Support remote troubleshooting and ongoing customer service efforts for existing installations.
  • Work directly with manufacturing personnel, field technicians, suppliers, and customers during system development and implementation.

Requirements
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Automation Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience programming PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and industrial automation platforms is preferred.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Schneider Electric, or similar industrial control systems is preferred.
  • Experience supporting industrial automation projects in the oil and gas, process, manufacturing, or related industries is preferred.
  • Experience with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning, and start-up activities is preferred.
  • Proficiency with industrial programming software, automation tools, networking technologies, and Microsoft Office applications is required.
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols including Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP, Modbus RTU, OPC, and related technologies is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, loop diagrams, control narratives, and technical specifications is preferred.
  • Knowledge of control panel design, instrumentation systems, and industrial networking concepts is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to maintain insurability under company insurance requirements.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to customer sites, vendor facilities, and field locations for commissioning, troubleshooting, training, and support activities.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain customer site access and safety training requirements as needed.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail are required.

  • Work is performed in both a climate-controlled office and in shop/field environments with exposure to noise, moving equipment, energized electrical systems, and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas.
