Job description


Zachry Engineering Corporation (ZEC) is looking for a detail-oriented Senior Project Controls Specialist who is highly qualified in Primavera P6 scheduling engineering projects to work in our Houston Westchase office. This is a great opportunity to work on a challenging project for a well-known client in the industry. The ideal candidate will produce and maintain all cost and schedule functions, both internal and external, on assigned projects while maintaining company standards.
Responsibilities
  • Assist the project manager in developing project scope of work for required Project Controls tasks
  • Study and understand all relevant project documents pertaining to the preparation of schedules
  • Work with all relevant project and discipline personnel to prepare schedules
  • Convert the scope of work document into a logically linked, resourced project schedule
  • Prepare realistic, achievable schedules using logical networks and where necessary integrate engineering, procurement, and construction schedules with an emphasis on the engineering and procurement pieces
  • Develop progress curves and manpower histograms
  • Monitor progress against project schedule and prepare progress reports
  • Collect expended man-hours and prepare Earned Value reports and analysis
  • Prepare, review, and ensure the timely issue of all relevant reports to stakeholders
  • Verbally and in writing advise project management and discipline personnel on impacts, and contingencies and generally guide the scopes towards the earliest possible finish
  • Provide realistic resource forecast data at a project and corporate level
  • Provide input into the budget forecasting process
  • Train, encourage, and provide guidance to planning engineers, junior and assistant personnel
  • Manage cost discipline to ensure accurate and timely control and forecasting of man-hour budgets and ensure that the impact of all change requests is properly assessed and included in the schedules
  • Participate in schedule and project risk analysis as required
  • Analyze progress and effects on schedule and advise necessary corrective actions

Qualifications
  • High school diploma with previous experience in other functional areas.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in project controls with a focus on the Energy and Chemicals engineering industry.
  • Experience developing and maintaining engineering schedules.
  • Leads project meetings and makes presentations.
  • Problem-solving skills, ability to resolve complex situations with appropriate management.
  • Requires excellent working knowledge of project management software, specifically Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and Excel.
  • Must have a proven record and experience leading the project controls effort on assigned projects.
  • Must have an understanding of the basic principles of project management.
  • Requires an excellent general understanding of Cost Management, Estimating, and Change Control
  • Must have a high degree of computer literacy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with staff at all levels.
