Senior Project Accountant

Location: Rockville, MD
Salary: $100,000+ base salary + quarterly bonus opportunities

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Accountant to join a growing, fast-paced organization. This role is responsible for overseeing project financials, maintaining Work in Process (WIP) schedules, supporting revenue recognition, and partnering closely with project managers to drive project profitability and financial accuracy.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional with strong project accounting experience, advanced Excel skills, and a background in construction or project-based environments.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and reconcile Work in Process (WIP) schedules, including project costs, billings, and revenue recognition
  • Analyze project financial performance, including budget vs. actuals and forecasting
  • Prepare monthly project financial reports for leadership and stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with revenue recognition standards, including percentage-of-completion and cost-to-cost methods
  • Partner with project managers to review project status, billing accuracy, and cost overruns
  • Support month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries and reconciliations
  • Review contracts and change orders for proper accounting treatment
  • Prepare AIA billings as required
  • Assist with audits and provide supporting project documentation
  • Help implement and improve accounting processes across existing and newly acquired entities
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement within project accounting and WIP reporting
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of project accounting experience within a construction or project-based environment
  • Strong experience preparing and maintaining WIP schedules
  • Advanced Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and financial data analysis
  • Experience with Sage Intacct or similar ERP systems preferred
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
