Position Title: Project Accountant

Location: Sterling, VA (On-site)

Assignment Type: Permanent Hire

Compensation: $75,000–$100,000 annually

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Benefits: This position is eligible for Medical, Dental, Vision, and 401(k).


Job Description:

Our client is seeking a Project Accountant to support the financial management of large-scale projects from inception through completion. This role is responsible for project job costing, billing, financial analysis, vendor compliance, and budget monitoring while partnering closely with Project Managers to ensure projects remain financially accurate and on track.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and experienced in project accounting within a construction or project-based environment. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing organization with strong long-term career growth potential.


Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate all phases of project job costing, including tracking, recording, and analyzing project costs
  • Prepare, review, and analyze monthly customer billings in accordance with contract requirements
  • Perform financial analysis by comparing actual project costs against budgets and forecasts
  • Monitor project budgets, commitments, and profitability throughout the project lifecycle
  • Process and maintain vendor compliance documentation, including certificates of insurance, lien waivers, bonds, W-9s, and retention documentation
  • Partner with Project Managers to provide financial reporting and project status updates
  • Produce and analyze job cost reports to evaluate project performance and profitability
  • Maintain accurate project financial information within the company's project accounting system
  • Identify, research, and resolve project-related accounting issues in a timely manner
  • Support month-end reporting and other ad hoc financial analyses as needed


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent experience preferred
  • 3+ years of project accounting experience
  • Experience with lump sum billing and cost-plus/GMP billing in a construction or project-based environment
  • Strong understanding of job costing, project financial reporting, and contract billing
  • Experience managing vendor compliance documentation, including certificates of insurance, lien waivers, bonds, and retention
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • High level of professionalism, attention to detail, and customer service skills
