What is a project based job?

Project-based jobs are temporary positions where individuals are hired to complete specific tasks or projects within a set timeframe. Unlike permanent roles, these jobs end when the project is finished. They are common in industries such as construction, IT, marketing, and consulting, where companies need specialized skills for short-term needs. Project-based roles offer flexibility and can provide varied experience, but they may not offer long-term job security or benefits typically associated with full-time employment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a project based role?

To thrive in a project-based role, you need strong project management abilities, time management, and relevant expertise in the project's subject area, often supported by a degree or relevant work experience. Familiarity with tools like Microsoft Project, Asana, or Trello, and sometimes certifications such as PMP or Agile, is common. Exceptional organizational skills, adaptability, and effective communication help individuals stand out in managing shifting priorities and collaborating with diverse teams. These skills ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and to a high standard, which is crucial for organizational success.

What are some common challenges faced in project based roles and how can they be effectively managed?

Project-based roles often involve working under tight deadlines, adapting to rapidly changing priorities, and collaborating with diverse teams. One of the main challenges is ensuring clear communication among all stakeholders to avoid misunderstandings and scope creep. Effective time management and regularly scheduled check-ins can help keep the project on track, while flexibility and adaptability are key to overcoming unexpected obstacles. Building strong relationships with team members and stakeholders also contributes to smoother project execution and successful outcomes.

Job description

The West Allis-West Milwaukee School District strongly encourages applicants from diverse backgrounds to apply. We are strengthened by diversity and committed to equity. Every day, the West Allis-West Milwaukee School District focuses on equity through deeper learning, fosters a sense of belonging, and educates the whole child so that every learner achieves success. The West Allis-West Milwaukee School District aspires to create experiences that build community and empower learners so they can live life on their own terms.
The West Allis-West Milwaukee School District is currently seeking a Special Education - Cross Cat Teacher for Dottke High School. Candidates must have or be able to obtain a Wisconsin DPI-issued teaching license valid for Special Education for Grades 9 through Grade 12.

Since the 2020-21 school year, James E. Dottke Project-Based Learning (PBL) High School has been West Allis-West Milwaukee School District's only fully-functioning project-based learning educational option.  Dottke PBL HS enrolls around 200 students and is an option for any 9th-12th grader that wants to learn and be assessed in a different way.  At our school, we say that we are "Different by Design."  Students at Dottke PBL HS choose this option for the non-traditional, authentic, student-driven and collaborative school environment where we "learn by doing."  Although some pieces of instruction and assessment lean more towards traditional, much of the learning is assessed through students creating and delivering projects.

Dottke PBL HS is focused on getting students to show mastery in the six "Deeper Learning Competencies": content mastery, effective communication, critical thinking & problem solving, collaboration, self-directed learning and academic mindset. Research shows that people who possess these qualities are successful in their careers and life.  Our dedicated staff work together to deliver authentic, real-world learning experiences, oftentimes with the help of strong community partners who fill the role of experts.

  • Dottke PBL HS is looking for an energetic, innovative, motivated, flexible, collaborative and relentless educator to join our team of staff and students on our deeper learning journey.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in project-based learning or a strong desire to teach and assess in this model.
  • We are looking for someone who wants to include students in the learning process and help us achieve our mission to change the face of education.

The West Allis-West Milwaukee School District does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, color, gender, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, or national or ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, hiring and employment practices, admission policies, scholarship and grant programs, or athletic and other school administered programs.
