Position: Middle School Career Technology, STEM & Innovation Teacher
Reports To: Principal
 




Unified Arts Department (Grades 6-8)

Position Summary

Arbor Park School District 145 seeks an innovative, student-centered educator to lead a dynamic STEM and Technology program within the Unified Arts Department. The successful candidate will inspire students through hands-on, project-based learning experiences that develop technical, entrepreneurial, and problem-solving skills aligned with college, career, and workforce readiness. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instruction and Curriculum

  • Design and deliver engaging STEM, technology, and career-focused instruction for middle school students grades 6-8.
  • Teach Cisco Networking Academy curriculum (provided) and prepare students for industry-recognized credential opportunities.
  • Prepare students for Digital Literacy certifications and assessments.
  • Facilitate project-based and problem-based learning experiences that connect classroom learning to real-world applications.
  • Integrate computer science, cybersecurity, networking, coding, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies into instruction. Curriculum and equipment will be provided.
  • Develop lessons aligned to Illinois Learning Standards, Computer Science Standards, ISTE Standards, and Career and Technical Education pathways. 

STEM Innovation and Technology

  • Guide students through 3D modeling, prototyping, and 3D printing projects.
  • Maintain classroom technology, STEM equipment, networking devices, and fabrication tools.
  • Promote safe and responsible technology use and digital citizenship.
  • Utilize Microsoft 365 and other instructional technologies to enhance learning and collaboration.

Entrepreneurship and Project Management

  • Teach foundational entrepreneurship concepts, business innovation, and product development.
  • Facilitate student-driven projects that include planning, budgeting, design, implementation, and presentation.
  • Support student participation in innovation challenges, STEM competitions, technology showcases, and community partnerships.
  • Encourage creativity, leadership, and problem-solving through authentic business and technology experiences.

Student Support and Professional Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs and learning styles.
  • Assess student growth and maintain accurate records of student progress.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding student achievement and classroom activities.
  • Participate in professional learning, curriculum development, and district initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by administration.
     

Qualifications

Required

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL).
  • Technology Specialist (TS) endorsement or eligibility to obtain the endorsement.
    • Candidates holding an Educator License with Stipulations (ELS) in an Information Technology-related field may be considered, provided they meet Illinois State Board of Education requirements and possess documented industry experience in technology, networking, cybersecurity, computer science, engineering, information systems, or related technical fields.

Salary:
Based on placement schedule per the negotiated certified staff contract.  PROFESSIONAL NEGOTIATIONS AGREEMENT
Term:
Position is full time, 7 hours/day, 180 days per school year
