  • Coordinate all phases of the project lifecycle, from planning through execution and closeout, working with field teams, vendors, and general contractors.

Job description

My client is a subcontractor that works on the interior of data centers, delivering complex, high-spec projects for leading technology companies. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of steel structure projects within mission-critical environments, managing work that directly supports the reliability and performance of cutting-edge data centers. You’ll be joining a team that values precision, safety, and disciplined project delivery.

About the Role:

As Project Manager (Steel), you will oversee steel fabrication and erection activities for interior data center projects, ensuring work is delivered safely, on time, and within budget. You will coordinate all phases of the project lifecycle, from planning through execution and closeout, working closely with field teams, vendors, and general contractors. Your leadership will be key to maintaining quality standards and meeting stringent client requirements in a fast-paced, highly technical environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules and work plans for steel structure scopes within data center interiors.
  • Coordinate steel fabrication and erection activities, ensuring alignment between design, shop drawings, and field installation.
  • Manage project budgets, track costs, and implement corrective actions to keep projects within financial targets.
  • Administer contracts and change orders, including scope definition, documentation, negotiation, and approval processes.
  • Oversee site safety practices related to steel work, enforcing OSHA compliance and company safety policies.
  • Monitor quality of steel fabrication and installation, coordinating inspections and resolving non-conformance issues.
  • Lead coordination with vendors, fabricators, and subcontractors to ensure timely delivery of materials and services.
  • Interface with general contractors, engineers, and internal stakeholders to resolve technical issues and maintain project progress.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience managing construction projects with a strong emphasis on steel structures.
  • Hands-on experience in project scheduling and planning using relevant tools or software.
  • Solid understanding of construction project management processes from pre-construction through closeout.
  • Practical knowledge of steel fabrication and erection methods, sequencing, and field constraints.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, track project costs, and report financial performance.
  • Experience with contract administration, including change management and claims avoidance.
  • Strong working knowledge of safety standards and OSHA compliance in a construction environment.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams, coordinate multiple stakeholders, and drive decisions under time pressure.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience working on data center construction or other mission-critical facilities.
  • Familiarity with interior structural steel solutions and integration with mechanical/electrical systems.
  • Proficiency with construction management software and digital collaboration tools.
  • Background in quality assurance programs, including inspection planning and documentation.
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent steel packages or phased project delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Associate degree or equivalent technical training in construction or engineering disciplines considered with strong experience.
  • Professional certifications such as PMP, CCM, or similar project management credentials are an advantage.
  • OSHA safety training or certification (e.g., OSHA 30) strongly preferred.

If you are a detail-focused Project Manager with steel expertise and thrive in complex, technical environments, we encourage you to apply and take a leading role in these critical data center interior projects.
