Position Summary

The Project Management Intern provides project and field support while gaining practical experience in commercial construction management. Working alongside experienced Project Managers, Superintendents, Project Engineers, and other construction professionals, the intern assists with project coordination, documentation, scheduling, quality control, safety, and field operations throughout various phases of construction.

Roncelli's internship program is designed to provide meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities aligned with each student's education and career goals. Interns gain exposure to active construction projects, professional mentorship, company training, and the full construction lifecycle while developing technical, organizational, and leadership skills.

High-performing interns may be considered for future internships or full-time employment opportunities upon graduation.

Travel Expectations: This is an onsite, field-based position requiring daily presence at assigned project sites. Travel to other project locations may be required based on assignment, along with occasional travel to Roncelli’s headquarters in Sterling Heights, Michigan.

Candidates should include their project list (if any), resume, and preference for travel when applying for the role. Actual compensation within the posted range will be based on qualifications, experience, and overall alignment with the role requirements.

Role and Key Responsibilities

Project Coordination & Documentation

  • Assist with obtaining, reviewing, submitting, logging, and tracking project documentation, including submittals, RFIs, meeting minutes, and project correspondence.
  • Support daily project documentation, reports, photographs, and project records.
  • Assist with maintaining organized project files using company project management software.
  • Participate in project meetings and assist with documenting action items and follow-up activities.

Field Operations & Construction Support

  • Assist Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Superintendents with daily project coordination activities.
  • Observe construction activities to gain understanding of project sequencing, scheduling, and field operations.
  • Support material deliveries, equipment coordination, and subcontractor activities.
  • Participate in punch list activities and project closeout processes.
  • Learn construction means and methods across multiple building systems and trades.

Schedule, Progress & Cost Support

  • Assist with tracking project progress, production quantities, and schedule updates.
  • Support compilation of project costs, material tracking, labor reporting, and equipment documentation.
  • Assist with preparation of weekly reports and project progress updates.
  • Gain exposure to budgeting, forecasting, and project financial management.

Quality & Safety

  • Observe work for compliance with drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Participate in jobsite safety inspections, toolbox talks, and safety meetings.
  • Assist in promoting compliance with company safety policies and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Learn proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe construction practices.

Professional Development

  • Participate in company-sponsored training sessions, site tours, and team-building activities.
  • Learn construction management software including Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and other project management tools.

Qualifications

  • Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Architecture, or a related field. Students entering their junior or senior year are preferred.
  • Experience: Previous construction, internship, or field experience is preferred but not required.
  • Screening Requirements: Pre-employment drug testing required; background check, including driving record, as required by client.
  • Valid Driver's License required.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This role operates in both office and active construction site environments and requires regular interaction with project teams, subcontractors, vendors, and clients. Interns should expect to spend the majority of their time on active jobsites while also performing administrative and project coordination tasks in an office or jobsite trailer. The position requires prolonged periods of standing, walking, climbing stairs or ladders, navigating uneven terrain, and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds. Work may occur in varying weather conditions, noise, dust, and other conditions typical of construction sites. Compliance with all company safety policies and the use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
