Your role
  • Reporting to the Director of Engineering Services, the Engineering Manager, Reactor Engineering is responsible for the execution and technical leadership of engineering services in support of domestic and international operating CANDU reactors.
  • The Engineering Manager works closely with the Director of Engineering Services, Project Managers and Project Directors, Engineering Excellence Management, Engineering Managers from other mandates, and external clients and stakeholders to ensure the safe, high-quality, and well-coordinated delivery of engineering services.
  • They will manage a team of approximately 25 people.
  • Be accountable for the technical delivery and overall quality of assigned engineering scopes in the electrical, instrumentation and controls discipline.
  • Provide technical direction and oversight to ensure deliverables meet contract requirements, client expectations, applicable nuclear codes and standards, and the company quality assurance program.
  • Ensure engineering activities are planned and executed in accordance with approved QA programs, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinating the design interface between the NSP and BOP portions of the NPP.
  • Identify, assess, and manage technical issues and risks within assigned scope, escalating as appropriate.
  • Review and approve engineering documents and drawings in accordance with delegated authority.
  • Assign and prioritize work based on individual qualifications, experience, and competency to support safe and efficient execution.
  • Set and manage team priorities to align engineering objectives with overall project goals.
  • Establish and promote a working culture that enables Engineering Services to achieve its vision by reinforcing nuclear safety, quality, knowledge sharing, innovation, and respect across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Provide performance feedback, observations, and coaching to support a continuous learning culture.
  • Support the Director of Engineering Services in defining engineering scope, deliverables, future resource needs, and technical inputs for proposals and anticipated work.
  • Support effective technical integration across disciplines and interfaces by working collaboratively with Engineering Services, Engineering Excellence, and other project mandates.
  • Identify emerging technical demands and capability gaps based on project execution, client direction, and industry trends, and raise these to Engineering Services leadership.
  • Develop and maintain strong technical relationships with client side counterparts to support current delivery and informed discussion of future needs.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain tools, processes, and standard practices to improve engineering efficiency, effectiveness, consistency, and quality.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation in engineering analysis methods, design approaches, workflows, and digital tools.
  • Escalate significant technical, regulatory, or delivery risks to the Director of Engineering Services and the Project Manager/Project Director, as required.
About you
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering or related discipline and registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario.
  • 10+ years of experience in Reactor Engineering and at least 3-5 years of experience leading engineering scopes and technical teams on complex projects.
  • 5+ years nuclear and/or CANDU technology experience is an asset.
  • Proven ability to mentor and develop engineers and designers.
  • Ability to work effectively and balance conflicting priorities.
  • Willingness to travel to project or client sites as required.
