Programming Freelance information

Can coding be a side hustle?

Programming freelancers often take on side projects to supplement their income, as coding skills are in demand across various industries. Managing time and client communication is essential when balancing freelance work with other commitments, and many use platforms like Upwork or Fiverr to find opportunities.

What are programming freelancers?

Programming freelancers are independent professionals who offer their coding, software development, or related technical skills to clients on a project-by-project basis. Unlike full-time employees, freelancers work for themselves, often managing multiple projects for different clients simultaneously. They may specialize in specific programming languages, frameworks, or industries, and are responsible for finding their own work, negotiating rates, and managing their workloads. Freelance programmers enjoy flexibility in choosing their projects and schedules, but also take on the challenges of self-employment, such as finding clients and handling taxes.

What Are Freelance Programming Jobs?

As a freelance programmer, your responsibilities are to develop programs, write code, design software, troubleshoot and update systems, and complete projects as an independent party on a contract basis. Programming jobs include websites, mobile apps, company systems, and more. You can work as a generalist, taking on assignments in various industries with general knowledge of multiple programs, or work as a specialist programmer and focus on one industry, programming language, or specific skill. Freelance programming jobs are typically temporary positions for a company and you are paid a previously agreed amount per job.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Programming Freelancer, and why are they important?

To succeed as a Programming Freelancer, you need strong coding skills in relevant languages, a solid portfolio of completed projects, and often a degree or certification in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with version control systems (like Git), popular frameworks, and freelancing platforms is highly beneficial. Excellent self-management, communication, and problem-solving abilities set top freelancers apart by ensuring client satisfaction and project delivery. These skills are crucial for building a reliable reputation, meeting client expectations, and securing ongoing work in a competitive market.

What is the difference between Programming Freelance vs Software Developer?

AspectProgramming FreelanceSoftware Developer
CredentialsSelf-taught or certifications, no formal degree requiredBachelor's or higher in Computer Science or related field

Employer & Industry UsageClients, startups, agencies; freelance platformsTech companies, corporations, startups; full-time employment
Search & Comparison IntentFreelance opportunities, project-based workFull-time roles, career growth, company benefits

Programming Freelance involves independent, project-based work often done remotely for various clients, requiring self-motivation and diverse skills. Software Developers usually work as part of a team within a company, focusing on long-term projects and career development. Both roles require programming skills, but their work settings, employment status, and career paths differ significantly.

How do freelance programmers typically manage multiple client projects and deadlines effectively?

Freelance programmers often juggle several projects at once, which requires strong organizational and time management skills. They commonly use project management tools, set clear expectations with clients, and break projects into manageable tasks with specific milestones. Communication is key—regular updates and proactive discussions about timelines help prevent misunderstandings. Additionally, successful freelancers build buffer time into their schedules to accommodate unexpected issues or urgent client requests.

Can you make 10k a month freelancing?

Programming freelancers can potentially earn $10,000 or more per month depending on their experience, skill level, niche, and client base. Achieving this income typically requires high-demand skills, a strong portfolio, and consistent client work, often involving multiple projects or long-term contracts. Income varies widely based on factors such as specialization, location, and the ability to market oneself effectively.

How to do freelance work as a programmer?

To do freelance work as a programmer, build a portfolio showcasing your skills, create profiles on freelance platforms like Upwork or Freelancer, and actively bid on projects that match your expertise. Strong communication, time management, and proficiency in relevant programming languages and tools are essential for success.

Is AI replacing coders?

AI is automating certain coding tasks, but it is not replacing programmers. Programming freelancers and developers continue to play a vital role in designing, customizing, and maintaining software, often using AI tools to enhance productivity and efficiency. Human expertise remains essential for complex problem-solving and creative development in the tech industry.

Marketing & Sales Enablement Manager

Marketing & Sales Enablement Manager

Retail Technology Group Inc

Fenton, MO • On-site

$75K - $95K/yr

Full-time

Re-posted 3 days ago

Job description

The Marketing & Sales Enablement Manager is the "Player-Coach" responsible for building and executing RTG’s marketing engine. This is a hybrid role that requires a balance of hands-on creation and strategic project management.

You will be responsible for the daily pulse of our brand—writing content, updating the website, and creating standard sales tools yourself—while simultaneously managing external freelancers and vendors for complex design, video, or large-scale print initiatives. You are the architect of the strategy, but you are also willing to lay the bricks.

Key Responsibilities

Content Strategy & Digital Execution (Internal Focus)

  • The "First Draft" Writer: You are the primary voice of the company. You will research and write the initial copy for case studies, blog posts, and white papers, ensuring technical accuracy and tone alignment before finalizing or sending to design.
  • Digital Channel Management: Personally execute the weekly social media calendar (LinkedIn) and monthly email marketing newsletters. This includes writing the post, creating the graphic (Canva/Adobe), and managing the deployment.
  • Website Maintenance: Serve as the hands-on administrator for the WordPress site. You will handle routine updates (posting news, changing employee bios, updating text) internally, while coordinating with a developer for complex structural changes.

Sales Enablement & Collateral Creation (Hybrid Focus)

  • Rapid Response Design: Create and update "Tier 2" sales assets internally. If a Sales VP needs a slide fixed for a meeting tomorrow or a one-pager updated with new specs, you execute this using PowerPoint, Canva, or InDesign.
  • Complex Asset Management: For "Tier 1" assets (Flagship Product Brochures, Trade Show Booth Backdrops), you will act as the Creative Director, writing the creative brief, hiring the freelancer/agency, and managing the revision process to ensure high-quality output.
  • Presentation Architecture: Own the Master Sales Deck. You are responsible for ensuring the "Gold Standard" version is always up to date and accessible to the sales team.

Lead Generation & Events

  • Event Logistics: Manage the end-to-end execution of trade shows. This includes booking the space, designing/ordering the booth assets (coordinating with vendors), and managing the pre-show marketing blitz to drive traffic.
  • CRM & Reporting: Bridge the gap between marketing and sales by tracking lead sources in the CRM. You will report monthly on "Marketing Influenced Revenue" to demonstrate the ROI of both your internal efforts and external spend.

Qualifications & Job Requirements

Essential Job Duties

Technical Competencies

  • "Light" Design Skills: Proficiency in Canva is mandatory; working knowledge of Adobe InDesign/Photoshop is highly preferred. You must be comfortable resizing images, laying out text, and prepping files for print.
  • CMS Proficiency: Demonstrated ability to manage a WordPress site (standard page builders like Elementor or Divi).
  • Writing: Strong business copywriting skills are non-negotiable. You must be able to translate technical concepts into persuasive sales arguments without external help.

Core Competencies

  • The "General Contractor" Mindset: The ability to discern when to do it yourself (for speed/cost) versus when to outsource it (for quality/complexity).
  • Sales Alignment: A service-oriented mindset that views the Sales Team as your primary customer.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage a budget and timeline for multiple freelance projects simultaneously.

Education and Experience

Experience

4–7 years of B2B Marketing experience, with at least 2 years in a role that required hands-on content creation.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or Business.
