Independent Living & Assisted Living

Position Summary

The Resident Programming Director is responsible for the development, coordination, and execution of a vibrant, resident-centered life enrichment program serving both Independent Living and Assisted Living residents at The Residences at Thomas Circle. This role is central to the culture and energy of the community and requires a highly organized, emotionally intelligent leader who can balance creativity, diplomacy, logistics, and resident engagement in a sophisticated urban senior living environment.

This is not simply an activities position. The Resident Programming Director helps shape the daily experience of residents and plays a key role in fostering connection, purpose, intellectual stimulation, wellness, and community identity. Residents themselves are an integral part of the programming process, and this position requires someone who values collaboration, listens thoughtfully, and can meaningfully incorporate resident feedback and participation into the life of the community.

The ideal candidate is patient, adaptable, professional under pressure, and comfortable managing a fast-paced calendar with multiple moving parts, personalities, and priorities.


Essential ResponsibilitiesResident Engagement & Community Building
  • Develop and lead a robust calendar of programs, events, outings, lectures, wellness initiatives, entertainment, cultural experiences, and social opportunities for Independent Living and Assisted Living residents
  • Build meaningful relationships with residents and maintain a visible, approachable presence throughout the community
  • Encourage resident involvement in program planning, committees, clubs, and community traditions
  • Facilitate resident meetings and gather ongoing feedback to ensure programming remains relevant, engaging, and reflective of resident interests
  • Create opportunities that support social connection, lifelong learning, creativity, wellness, and purposeful living
  • Foster an inclusive environment that respects varying levels of independence, mobility, cognition, and participation preferences
Program Planning & Execution
  • Maintain and manage a detailed monthly programming calendar with multiple concurrent events and operational considerations
  • Coordinate transportation logistics, reservations, vendors, performers, guest speakers, volunteers, and outside partnerships
  • Plan and execute both large-scale community events and smaller daily engagement opportunities
  • Ensure programs are well organized, appropriately staffed, and professionally presented
  • Adapt programming based on resident participation trends, seasonal interests, and community needs
  • Assist with evening and weekend programming as needed for major events and community functions
Communication & Administration
  • Utilize Sagely software for resident calendars, communication, event management, attendance tracking, and engagement documentation
  • Prepare calendars, flyers, announcements, newsletters, digital communications, and event materials in a timely and professional manner
  • Maintain accurate records, participation tracking, and departmental documentation
  • Manage departmental supply inventory and assist with budget oversight
  • Collaborate closely with dining, sales, housekeeping, nursing, transportation, and plant operations to ensure smooth event coordination and resident experiences
Leadership & Professionalism
  • Serve as a department leader and representative of the communityโ€™s culture and hospitality standards
  • Handle resident concerns, differing opinions, and interpersonal dynamics with diplomacy, patience, and professionalism
  • Maintain a calm and solutions-oriented approach in a fast-moving environment
  • Support new resident orientation and integration into community life
  • Build positive relationships with family members, outside organizations, volunteers, and community partners

Qualifications
  • Previous experience in senior living programming, recreation, hospitality, event planning, therapeutic recreation, or related field preferred
  • Prior leadership or director-level experience strongly preferred
  • Experience working with older adults required
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously
  • Comfortable leading group activities and public-facing events
  • Proficiency with technology and scheduling platforms; experience with Sagely preferred
  • Creative, flexible, and highly collaborative mindset
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, diplomacy, and discretion
  • Evening and weekend availability as needed for community events
