Job Description:

As Director of Engineering at Reichert, you will lead the engineering function for a business focused on innovative diagnostic and measurement technologies. You will guide product development, product modernization, and engineering execution across software, electrical, hardware, embedded systems, applications, and cloud-connected solutions. In this role, you will help shape engineering strategy, support business growth, strengthen product quality, and build a collaborative engineering culture focused on innovation, continuous improvement, cybersecurity, and technical excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop the engineering team to deliver high-quality products, solutions, and engineering programs.
  • Establish engineering priorities, resource plans, project timelines, and execution strategies that support business growth and operational excellence.
  • Oversee the product development lifecycle from concept through production, including new product development, major product refreshes, and end-of-life planning.
  • Lead software and systems development across embedded software, applications, cloud services, Windows, and Linux environments.
  • Champion Agile software development practices, distributed version control, code quality, code review, and effective software development lifecycle practices.
  • Provide technical guidance in algorithm development, signal analysis, filtering techniques, UI/UX improvements, and software architecture.
  • Support engineering design reviews, including electrical schematic and PCB layout reviews.
  • Ensure engineering programs meet applicable industry standards, regulatory expectations, cybersecurity requirements, and product quality expectations.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams, including R&D, manufacturing, quality, service, sales, and marketing, to support product development and market needs.
  • Manage engineering budgets, resources, risks, and timelines to support successful project delivery.
  • Identify, evaluate, and support new technologies, external technical resources, and business development opportunities.
  • Lead New Product Development initiatives, including products new to the business unit or market.
  • Manage technical debt and develop practical roadmaps that improve product sustainability, maintainability, performance, and long-term platform health.
  • Support strategic acquisitions and integration of new technologies, when applicable.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, inclusion, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
  • Use digital tools, data-driven decision making, and sustainable engineering practices to improve team effectiveness and product outcomes.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, software engineering, systems engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience, including engineering leadership experience.
  • Experience leading successful product development initiatives for electronic instruments, embedded systems, medical technology, regulated products, or similar technical products.
  • Experience leading Agile software development teams.
  • Knowledge of embedded software, applications, cloud services, Windows, and Linux operating systems.
  • Experience with distributed version control systems, coding standards, code review practices, and software quality methods.
  • Experience developing software for resource-constrained embedded systems, including low-power or compute-constrained environments.
  • Experience with algorithm development, data analysis, signal processing, and filtering techniques.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity requirements, cybersecurity testing, and secure product development practices.
  • Experience participating in or leading electrical design reviews, including schematic and PCB layout reviews.
  • Project management experience, including budget oversight, resource planning, timeline management, and risk mitigation.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and complex projects while maintaining focus on quality, schedule, and business objectives.
  • Clear communication, collaboration, relationship-building, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to think strategically, execute tactically, and support continuous improvement.
  • Digital literacy and proficiency with digital tools.
