As the Director of Engineering for Battery Pack Systems, you will lead the technical direction for battery pack design and development, ensuring compliance with performance, safety, and reliability standards across various sectors.
Responsibilities:
โข Lead Technical Direction: Set and drive the engineering strategy for Re:Buildโs battery pack programs, ensuring technical excellence and alignment with business objectives.
โข Team Leadership & Development: Build, mentor, and develop a cross-disciplinary team of engineers (mechanical, electrical, systems). Foster a collaborative culture that encourages innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
โข Program Ownership: Oversee the design and development of lithium-ion battery packs and modules across multiple programs and industries. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to specification.
โข Cross-Functional Leadership: Collaborate with program management, procurement, manufacturing, thermal/mechanical engineering, electrical/BMS teams, and software groups to deliver integrated battery solutions.
โข Customer & Executive Engagement: Represent Re:Build in technical discussions with customers and business partners. Present high-quality technical results, design reviews, and recommendations to senior team members.
โข Innovation & Technology Roadmapping: Stay ahead of emerging technologies and regulatory requirements. Guide adoption of new tools, processes, and materials that enhance performance, safety, and manufacturability.
โข Compliance & Standards: Ensure all battery designs comply with applicable industry standards, certifications, and safety regulations (UL, ISO, SAE, IEC, etc.).
โข Change & Risk Management: Anticipate technical risks and develop mitigation strategies. Lead the engineering response to organizational changes such as acquisitions or program pivots.
โข Operational Excellence: Oversee development of supporting materials (BOMs, assembly procedures, installation guides) and ensure quality engineering documentation.
Qualifications:
Required:
โข Bachelorโs degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline (required)
โข 10+ years of experience in engineering with a strong focus on lithium-ion battery pack or related systems
โข 5+ years of technical leadership or management experience, including building and developing engineering teams
โข Proven track record of leading the design, development, and testing of battery systems for electrified propulsion or stationary storage
โข Deep knowledge of battery pack architecture, design principles, and system integration (mechanical, electrical, thermal, and BMS)
โข Proficiency with engineering tools (CAD such as CATIA or SolidWorks, electrical layout/analysis software, or equivalent)
โข Familiarity with regulatory standards (UL, IEC, ISO, SAE) and certification processes
โข Strong ability to set vision, align teams, and drive execution
โข Exceptional communication skills (verbal, written, presentation) with ability to convey complex technical information to executives, customers, and cross-functional teams
โข Demonstrated success in managing change, risk, and competing priorities in fast-paced environments
โข Experience with BMS software and control algorithms, and/or advanced thermal/mechanical battery pack design
โข Background in mathematical modeling, simulation, or advanced battery testing
โข Project/program management certification or equivalent experience
Preferred:
โข Masterโs or Ph.D.
