Who We're Looking For

Toyota Financial Services is seeking a Technical Engineering Directorto lead the design, development, modernization, and delivery of enterprise-scale solutions across Auto Loan Originations, Dealer Platforms, Consumer Lending, and Credit Decisioning systems.

This is a hands-on technology leadership role responsible for driving engineering strategy, architecture, platform modernization, and software delivery. The ideal candidate combines deep software engineering expertise with a strong understanding of automotive finance and lending ecosystems and can provide technical leadership across distributed engineering teams.

The successful candidate will be responsible for building scalable, secure, resilient, and high-performing platforms while leading engineers through complex business and technology transformations.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Technical Engineering Director, you will:

  • Lead the architecture, design, and development of mission-critical applications supporting auto loan originations, dealer desking, credit decisioning, pricing, incentives, funding, and servicing workflows.

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership and engineering direction to multiple Agile development teams.

  • Drive engineering best practices across architecture, coding standards, API design, security, observability, resiliency, and cloud-native development.

  • Partner with Product Management, Enterprise Architecture, Security, and Business teams to translate business objectives into scalable technical solutions.

  • Lead solution architecture reviews and technical design sessions to ensure long-term maintainability and platform scalability.

  • Guide engineering teams through complex integrations with internal and external systems, including dealer platforms, credit bureaus, identity providers, and third-party vendors.

  • Establish and enforce engineering standards for: Microservices Architecture, API-First Development, Event-Driven Systems, CI/CD Pipelines, Cloud-Native Applications, and Secure Software Development Practices

  • Drive modernization initiatives involving legacy platform decomposition, application refactoring, and migration to modern cloud architectures.

  • Oversee application performance, reliability, availability, security, and production readiness.

  • Partner with DevOps and SRE teams to improve operational excellence through automation, monitoring, alerting, and incident management practices.

  • Mentor and develop engineers, technical leads, and architects while fostering a culture of engineering excellence and continuous learning.

  • Participate in key technical decisions, architecture reviews, code reviews, and production support escalations when needed.

  • Promote the adoption of AI-assisted development tools, engineering productivity platforms, and modern software engineering practices.

Technical Leadership Responsibilities

  • Define and communicate the technical roadmap for Originations and Dealer Platform initiatives.

  • Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture standards and technology strategy.

  • Lead architecture decisions involving: Spring Boot Microservices, Event-Driven Architecture, API Gateways, Auth0 and modern Identity & Access Management (IAM) solutions, Container Platforms, and Cloud Services

  • Evaluate and implement emerging technologies that improve reliability, scalability, security, developer productivity, and customer experience.

  • Drive technical governance, architecture reviews, and engineering quality standards across teams.

  • Collaborate with business and technology leaders to ensure engineering investments align with strategic objectives.

Engineering Excellence

  • Establish engineering metrics focused on: Code Quality, Test Automation, Deployment Frequency, Lead Time, Change Failure Rate, and System Reliability

  • Drive continuous improvements in: CI/CD Maturity, Release Automation, Security Practices, Technical Debt Reduction, Observability and Monitoring

  • Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, innovation, and continuous improvement.

  • Ensure engineering teams consistently deliver secure, scalable, and maintainable solutions.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, or a related field.

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including leadership of enterprise engineering teams.

  • Proven experience designing and delivering large-scale distributed systems.

  • Strong hands-on expertise in: Java, Spring Boot, Microservices Architecture, REST APIs, Event-Driven Systems, and Integration Patterns

  • Experience building cloud-native applications using Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform.

  • Strong understanding of: Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift), CI/CD Pipelines, DevSecOps Practices, API Management, Identity & Access Management (IAM), Auth0, OAuth2/OpenID Connect (OIDC), Single Sign-On (SSO), and Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)

  • Experience leading architecture and integration efforts across multiple platforms and teams.

  • Deep understanding of SDLC, Agile delivery methodologies, and engineering operating models.

  • Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on technical execution.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Domain & Platform Experience

  • Strong understanding of auto finance, consumer lending, loan originations, and dealer ecosystems.

  • Experience delivering solutions involving: Dealer Desking, Credit Decisioning, Loan Originations, Rehashing, Pricing Engines, Incentives and Subvention Programs, and Funding Workflows

  • Knowledge of regulatory, compliance, security, and operational considerations within financial services environments.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience leading engineering teams supporting Auto Finance or Consumer Lending platforms.

  • Experience integrating with: Experian, TransUnion, Equifax, Plaid, Dealertrack, RouteOne

  • Experience with: Auth0, OAuth2, OIDC, SAML, and JWT-based authentication, API Gateway technologies, Apache Camel, Event Streaming Platforms (Kafka, Event Hub, etc.) and Enterprise Integration Patterns

  • Experience implementing cloud-native architectures and platform modernization initiatives.

  • Exposure to AI-assisted software development and engineering productivity tools such as GitHub Copilot.

  • Demonstrated success improving engineering maturity, delivery performance, platform reliability, and operational excellence.
