Manufacturing Engineering Director Job Summary

Iron Mountain is seeking a visionary and experienced Manufacturing Engineering Director to join our Global Operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading a highโ€‘performing global team of process engineers, lean specialists, Test Engineers and automation architects dedicated to the standardization and optimization of complex, highโ€‘variation manufacturing environments. You will bridge the gap between lean leadership and digital transformation, evolving manualโ€‘heavy workflows into a standardized, "smart" global network while ensuring worldโ€‘class safety and zeroโ€‘defect customer quality.

What Youโ€™ll Do (Responsibilities)
  • Drive Global Process Standardization: Design and implement a cohesive global framework to standardize manufacturing, test and business processes across multiple international sites, consolidating legacy regional documentation into a single engineering truth.
  • Lead Lean & Continuous Improvement: Execute global Value Stream Mapping (VSM) exercises to identify waste, build and manage a highโ€‘ROI lean project pipeline, and cultivate a robust global Kaizen culture through Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Advance Automation & Industry 4.0: Identify highโ€‘value opportunities to augment manual workflows with Collaborative Robots (Cobots) and partner with Data Science teams to implement Machine Learning models for predictive maintenance and yield optimization.
  • Ensure Safety & Quality Compliance: Enforce "Design for Safety" (DfS) protocols to reduce incident rates, architect 1:1 componentโ€‘level traceability frameworks to meet client audit requirements, and align all engineering outputs with Customer Quality Agreements.
What Youโ€™ll Bring (Skills & Qualifications)
  • Senior Engineering Leadership: 10โ€“15+ years of senior leadership experience within a Highโ€‘Variation/Highโ€‘Mix manufacturing environment, with a strong preference for Tier 1 Contract Electronics Manufacturing background.
  • Lean & Automation Mastery: Expertโ€‘level knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and the Theory of Constraints (Six Sigma Black Belt preferred), paired with practical experience deploying Cobots and machine learning sensors.
  • Global Influence & Communication: A proven track record of managing remote teams across international time zones (EMEA, AMER, APAC) and the exceptional communication skills required to influence regional site leads to adopt global standards.
  • Required Education: A Bachelorโ€™s or Masterโ€™s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering; an MBA or advanced degree in Operations Management is a significant advantage.
