Job Summary:

The Capital Projects Design & Delivery (CPDD) Branch in the Parks & Recreation Division is growing. Are you a highly motivated design professional looking to join an organizational culture that emphasizes innovation and collaboration.

Reporting to the Senior Project Manager of Minor State-of-Good Repair (SOGR) in Capital Projects Design & Delivery Section (CPDD), the Construction Coordinator will be part of a growing team that will provide strategic implementation and delivery of various component based SOGR recreation capital projects and maintain specialized procurement tools to expedite delivery of projects.

The Construction Coordinator will coordinate the design, contract documents, and contract administration of landscape projects, building projects, maintenance projects, interior space planning projects, renovations, additions, and new construction.

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Establishes the scope, scheduling, co-ordination and interfacing requirements of projects and supports  the project team with design and the preparation of working drawings, specifications, bills of material and prepares detailed estimates.
  • Carries out contract administration and review site progress including. interpreting and ensuring conformity with drawings and specifications.
  • Initiates field changes to correct errors or omissions in design relative to site conditions, recording and recommending for approval, contractors' progress claims in accordance with terms of contract and amount of work completed.
  • Assists in maintaining records and contract deficiencies and takes appropriate corrective action, ensures proper completion of contracts and arranges for official handover, initiates and maintains warranty records for the period as stipulated in the contract.
  • Takes appropriate action to correct failure occurring within warranty period, recording and recommending for release of contractor holdback.
  • Drafts tender, Request For Proposals (RFP), Request For Quotations (RFQ), provide bid analysis and prepares report.
  • Checks work of contractors to ensure adherence to City by-laws, policies and procedures.
  • Co-ordinates and attends site meetings and project team/client meetings.
  • Carries out technical work for the planning, design, construction and maintenance of City's facilities or infrastructure.
  • Provides technical assistance in planning and scheduling of work for capital projects. Prepares estimates and layouts. Verifies calculations by inspectors and performs on site visits.
  • Prepares specifications, tenders, reports and determines quantity and cost estimate.
  • Assists supervisor/project manager with respect to investigating and responding to inquiries and/or complaints from project clients, staff, elected officials and members of the general public.
  • Assists in documentation and reporting of project progress and budget.

Key Qualifications:

 

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

  1. Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Sciences, Architecture, or the equivalent combination of education and/or related construction coordination experience.
  2. Considerable experience in coordinating architectural projects from start to finish including project initiation, consultant procurement, design development, contractor procurement, construction and warranty phases.  
  3. Considerable experience in coordinating multi-disciplined capital construction projects, and in directing the work of consultants, contractors and staff.
  4. Considerable experience utilizing a variety of software packages including Word, Powerpoint, Excel and Outlook.
  5. Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class "G" Driver's License and have access to a vehicle for site visits.

You must also have:

  • Knowledge of architecture and construction techniques and a strong understanding of the Project Management process.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate at all organizational levels.
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Project management diploma would be an asset.
  • Experience using scheduling software such as MS Project is an asset.
  • Knowledge and application of the Occupational Health and Safety Act including knowledge of asbestos, silica, confined spaces, WHMIS and shoring legislation.
