USO Building Co./US-Offsite

Pre-Construction Engineer/Estimator

Location: Redding, CA. Primarily based in Redding with regular travel to active project sites.

Estimate Smarter. Build Faster. Shape the Future of Modular Construction.

US-Offsite is a modular design-build factory and general contractor helping developers deliver high-quality modular buildings with more speed, cost certainty, and control. Through USO Building Co., our team supports projects from early planning through factory coordination, site execution, and close-out, creating a more integrated and predictable construction experience.

US-Offsite is hiring a Preconstruction Engineer/Estimator for its construction division, USO Building Co., to support the early planning, estimating, budgeting, and preconstruction coordination of multifamily modular construction projects. This role helps turn concepts, drawings, scopes, and client goals into accurate budgets, clear bid packages, and strong project handoffs.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, organized, and comfortable working with drawings, quantities, subcontractor pricing, budgets, and constructability questions. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to grow within estimating, preconstruction, and modular construction while supporting projects before they move into execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review drawings, specifications, scopes, and project documents for estimating and preconstruction needs
  • Prepare quantity takeoffs, conceptual budgets, detailed estimates, and cost comparisons
  • Assist with subcontractor solicitation, bid package preparation, scope leveling, and proposal review
  • Identify scope gaps, cost risks, constructability concerns, and value-engineering opportunities
  • Support preconstruction planning for modular, site, and vertical construction scopes
  • Collaborate with the Preconstruction team, Project Managers, designers, vendors, and subcontractors to clarify pricing and project scope.
  • Prepare and organize estimate summaries, bid tabs, budgets, and supporting documentation
  • Track pricing updates, subcontractor responses, lead times, and outstanding preconstruction items
  • Assist with RFIs, design coordination, and cost impacts during early project development
  • Support smooth project handoff from Preconstruction to Operations by maintaining accurate files and clear scope documentation
  • Help improve estimating templates, cost databases, workflows, and internal preconstruction processes.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of construction estimating, preconstruction, project engineering, or related construction experience preferred
  • Experience with quantity takeoffs, bid solicitation, subcontractor pricing, or scope review preferred
  • Familiarity with commercial, multifamily, modular, design-build, or general contracting environments is a plus
  • Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Business, or a related field preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, scopes, and construction documents
  • Strong Excel, Microsoft Office, and document organization skills
  • Experience with estimating, takeoff, or project management software preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple deadlines
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across preconstruction, design, operations, vendors, and subcontractors
  • This position includes office-based estimating work with periodic visits to active construction sites.

Pay and Benefits

  • W-2 Employment
  • Full-time schedule, 40+ hours per week
  • Salary: $60,000-$85,000 per year, based on experience
  • In-person role based in Redding, CA
  • Mileage reimbursement for approved business travel using a personal vehicle.
  • Benefits available after the 90-day introductory period
  • 80 hours of vacation annually, accrued
  • 40 hours of sick leave per year
  • 7 paid holidays
  • Employer-subsidized medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Employer-paid life insurance
  • 401(k) with up to a 3.5% company match
  • All-team gatherings and company events
