Role Overview:
The Investment Business Manager is a senior role embedded within the Investments organization, acting as the operational and execution lead across asset classes. The role reports directly to the Investments Chief of Staff and works in close partnership across investment teams ensuring disciplined execution, scalable processes, and effective cross-functional coordination.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the day-to-day business and operating lead for investment teams across asset classes (Fixed Income, Equities, Multi-Asset).
  • Oversee coordination with Operations, Risk, Compliance, and Finance to ensure strong operational integrity, issues are escalated and addressed proactively and regulatory adherence.
  • Represent the Investments organization and act as the primary liaison between Investments and Technology, translating investment needs into executable requirements.
  • Own prioritization and execution of the investment change agenda, including technology, data, and process initiatives.
  • Accountable for driving projects to success and completion as per the businesses time, resource and budget expectations.
  • Support investments leadership team efforts to drive continuous improvement, risk reduction, and scalability in processes.
  • Partner with investment team members on process design related to new strategy development.

Required Qualifications:
  • Deep understanding of investment management across one or more asset classes.
  • Experience in business management, COO, or operating roles within an asset management or investment organization.
  • Strong program and change management capabilities, particularly in technology-enabled environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with senior investment professionals and influence without authority.
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience as an investor, investment analyst, or portfolio manager.
  • Experience working with investment platforms (e.g., Aladdin or equivalent).
  • Technical fluency in data, analytics, or programming tools (e.g., SQL, Python).

Salary Range:
$114,700 - 194,900 USD
Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits.
