Job description

Join our Manulife Bank Technology Team!

We're looking for a Cloud/DevOps Engineer with deep experience in Azure cloud platforms, Kubernetes, DevOps, and platform engineering to help design, build, operate, and continuously improve our cloud-native banking platforms.

In this role, you'll collaborate closely with product partners, software engineers, architects, security teams, and platform stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and highly available cloud solutions supporting critical business initiatives.

You'll contribute across the full platform lifecycle-from infrastructure provisioning and CI/CD automation to observability, security, and operational excellence-while continuing to grow your technical leadership, influence, and impact within a collaborative engineering environment.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Design, provision, and support Azure-based cloud infrastructure and platform services using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).

  • Build, manage, and optimize Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) environments, ensuring reliability, scalability, and security.

  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, and GitOps deployment practices.

  • Develop and support automated deployment workflows, release processes, and environment promotion strategies.

  • Administer Azure API Management and support API lifecycle management activities.

  • Manage Azure networking components including Virtual Networks, firewall configurations, ingress/egress controls, and connectivity requirements.

  • Implement and maintain Flux CD for GitOps-based deployments, reconciliation, and environment synchronization.

  • Create, maintain, and version Helm charts while supporting Kustomize overlays and configuration management.

  • Manage certificate lifecycles, including SSL/TLS certificate renewals, 90-day certificate rotations, trust store management, and remediation of self-signed certificates.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve platform incidents across Kubernetes clusters, networking, application deployments, and cloud infrastructure.

  • Configure and support Istio service mesh capabilities, including VirtualServices, DestinationRules, authorization policies, and mTLS.

  • Implement monitoring, alerting, logging, and observability solutions to improve platform health and operational visibility.

  • Partner with development teams to improve deployment processes, application reliability, and production readiness.

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, operational runbooks, standards, and platform architecture documentation.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship while driving platform engineering best practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5+ years of software engineering, cloud engineering, DevOps, or platform engineering experience.

  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services and Azure resource provisioning.

  • Experience building and managing Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) environments in enterprise-scale deployments.

  • Advanced experience with Terraform for Infrastructure as Code and automated environment provisioning.

  • Strong understanding of Kubernetes architecture and core concepts including Pods, Deployments, StatefulSets, DaemonSets, ReplicaSets, Services, Endpoints, Namespaces, ConfigMaps, and Secrets.

  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting Kubernetes environments using kubectl commands, logs, describe, exec, and port-forward.

  • Experience implementing and supporting CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation using GitHub Actions.

  • Experience with GitOps deployment practices and Flux CD.

  • Experience developing and maintaining Helm charts, versioning strategies, and dependency management.

  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including DNS, certificate domains, routing, ingress/egress, and firewall concepts.

  • Experience configuring and supporting Istio service mesh and related networking policies.

  • Experience with monitoring, logging, observability, and production support practices.

  • Experience with Artifactory and software artifact management.

  • Strong Linux/UNIX administration and troubleshooting experience.

  • Experience with Java-based applications and Maven build pipelines.

  • Excellent technical writing, documentation, and knowledge-sharing skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to troubleshoot complex distributed systems.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience working in cross-functional teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a highly collaborative environment.

  • Deep curiosity, continuous learning mindset, and passion for platform engineering and cloud technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with KEDA event-driven autoscaling, including triggers, scalers, and ScaledObjects.

  • Experience supporting highly regulated financial services or banking technology environments.

  • Exposure to DevSecOps practices, security automation, and cloud governance frameworks.

  • Experience designing highly available and resilient cloud-native architectures.

  • Knowledge of service reliability engineering (SRE) principles and operational excellence practices.

  • Experience leading platform modernization or cloud transformation initiatives.

  • Microsoft Azure, Kubernetes, Terraform, or cloud-related certifications.

We value diverse experiences and perspectives. If your background doesn't match every qualification listed but you believe you could contribute and grow in this role, we encourage you to apply.

When you join our team:

  • We'll empower you to learn and grow the career you want.

  • We'll recognize and support you in a flexible environment where well-being and inclusion are more than just words.
