Develops, tests, documents, and maintains Banner, Argos, SQL, and related reporting processes to improve the accuracy, timeliness, repeatability, and auditability of required submissions under the direction of the Director of Institutional Research. Note: Job Description pending final approvals by the Strategic Leadership Team. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES These requirements are a representation of the types of duties and responsibilities that will be required of positions given this title and shall not be construed as an exhaustive list of specific duties and responsibilities.
Management may direct employees to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description. Develop, test, and maintain programs, SQL queries, scripts, data extracts, and automated workflows that support Florida College System state reporting and related external submissions. Translate Florida Department of Education data-element definitions, edit specifications, submission requirements, and reporting rules into accurate technical logic and documented processes.
Provide technical support for the Student Database, Personnel Database, and other assigned state-reporting files by producing extracts, validation datasets, edit-resolution reports, and reconciliation tools. Analyze and resolve fatal edits, critical edits, rejected records, data anomalies, and material variances in collaboration with the Reports Coordinator, Institutional Research, Information Technology, functional offices, and system vendors. Reconcile submission files to Banner and other source systems, control totals, prior reporting periods, verification reports, and approved institutional business rules before certification.
Develop and maintain Argos DataBlocks, enterprise reports, dashboards, recurring reports, and audit queries used for state reporting, data quality review, and institutional decision-making. Diagnose and correct data transformations, mappings, joins, interfaces, scheduled jobs, and reporting configurations that affect the accuracy or completeness of reported data. Conduct unit, regression, parallel, and user-acceptance testing for new or modified reporting code; document results and obtain functional review and approval before production implementation.
Maintain organized, version-controlled source code and technical documentation, including specifications, data lineage, field mappings, business rules, dependencies, change logs, runbooks, and recovery procedures. Monitor scheduled reporting processes and interfaces; troubleshoot failures, escalate unresolved issues, and support timely recovery to meet required submission deadlines. Partner with functional offices to identify source-data problems and implement sustainable corrections that reduce recurring manual adjustments and reporting risk.
Support correction and resubmission cycles, audit inquiries, historical data reconstruction, and internal or external data requests as assigned. Apply college standards for information security, privacy, access control, change management, and data retention when handling institutional and protected data. Provide technical training and knowledge transfer to Institutional Research staff and other users; develop clear user guides and operating instructions for recurring processes.
Participate in Banner and Argos upgrades, system implementations, integrations, and migrations; assess and validate potential impacts on state reporting and institutional data processes. Maintain current knowledge of Florida College System reporting changes, enterprise reporting technologies, database tools, and programming practices relevant to the position. Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in computer science, information systems, software engineering, data analytics, or a related field and three years of progressively responsible experience in programming, database development, enterprise reporting, or data-systems support required. An equivalent combination of education and directly related experience may be considered. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES Knowledge of relational databases, data structures, data extraction and transformation, and data-validation methods.
Proficiency in Python/SQL and at least one programming or scripting language used for data processing, automation, or application support. Ability to interpret technical specifications, data definitions, edit rules, business rules, and reporting manuals and translate them into reliable technical processes. Knowledge of software development, testing, version control, change management, troubleshooting, and technical documentation practices.
Ability to reconcile complex datasets, identify root causes of discrepancies, and develop sustainable technical solutions. Ability to support enterprise resource planning and reporting systems, scheduled jobs, interfaces, and automated workflows. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet fixed regulatory and reporting deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability to protect confidential information and follow applicable data-security, privacy, and access-control requirements. Ability to communicate technical information clearly to technical and non-technical audiences and work collaboratively across departments. Excellent analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS None required SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES None PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience with Ellucian Banner, Evisions Argos, Oracle or PL/SQL, Power BI, or comparable enterprise data and reporting tools. Experience supporting Florida College System state reporting, including Student Database or Personnel Database submissions and verification processes. Experience developing automated reporting, validation, reconciliation, or data-quality processes in a higher education environment.
