Overview

We are currently seeking a Waste Management Engineer to join our Waste Management team. Our team specializes in delivering progressive, sustainable waste management solutions across Canada, drawing on over 50 years of industry knowledge and comprehensive technical capabilities.

This is a new position and can be based at any one of our Ontario offices:  Ottawa, Kingston, North York, Downtown Toronto, Oakville, Hamilton, Guelph, Kitchener, London, Chatham, or Windsor.

Responsibilities

Project Management & Technical

  • Manage and/or coordinate solid waste projects including those related to landfill design, waste management master planning, facility evaluation, facility design and operations.
  • Contribute to design and technical review including the preliminary and detailed design of solid waste projects related to waste facility design (landfill, transfer station, compost facilities), facility evaluation, facility operations, landfill gas management, leachate management, and construction administration and oversight.
  • Contribute to technical and professional leadership within the firm.
  • Preparation of technical reports, assessments, and memorandums, approval and permitting applications and public-facing documents.
  • Liaise with multidisciplinary project teams (including engineers, project managers, planners, environmental scientists, and technical support staff)

Sustainable Business Development

  • Contribute to business development activities including the preparation of project proposals, financial proposals, presentations, and client liaison.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities.
  • Lead the maintenance of existing client relationships including preparation of proposals and statement of qualifications.
  • Business travel upon request.

Learning & Development

  • Commit to self-development and ongoing learning and professional development.
  • Input to the career development of junior staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching and mentoring.
  • Contribute to Dillon's corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees.
Qualifications
  • A degree in civil, environmental, or geotechnical engineering.
  • Licensed to practice as a professional engineer in Ontario or eligible to be licensed within six months.
  • Minimum of ten years' experience in solid waste management for public and/or private clients.

  • Proven leadership and business development capabilities. Demonstrated abilities in the management of multidisciplinary project teams, including engineers, planners and environmental scientists.
  • Functional and detailed design of solid waste management facilities, including landfills, organic processing facilities and transfer stations.
  • Proven skills in client relationship management and business development.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable waste management legislation including environmental assessment requirements and the approvals application process.
  • Experienced in working with multidisciplinary team members on solid waste management planning, facility design, permitting and construction.
  • An understanding of business issues associated with consulting engineering and planning.
  • Exceptional communication (verbal and written) skills are essential.

Compensation

$82,000.00 - $132,000.00
