SCOPE: The Level II CNC Programmer independently develops, optimizes, and maintains CNC programs for complex multi-axis components. This role demonstrates strong technical expertise in 3-axis, 4-axis, and full 5-axis simultaneous machining while contributing to efficiency improvements and cross-functional collaboration. This role is an experienced / Independent programmer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Programming & Process Development

  • Independently program 3-axis, 4-axis, and full 5-axis simultaneous machining centers.
  • Develop complete machining strategies including advanced surfacing, multi-sided machining, and tight-tolerance components.
  • Select tooling, optimize speeds and feeds, and design workholding concepts.
  • Generate detailed setup documentation and tool lists.
  • Conduct simulation and collision avoidance verification.
  • Lead program prove-outs and first article runs.

Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement

  • Reduce cycle times while maintaining or improving quality standards.
  • Recommend tooling, fixturing, and cutting parameter improvements.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues related to programming or machine performance.
  • Support lean manufacturing and measurable cost-reduction efforts.

Collaboration & Technical Support

  • Provide DFM feedback to engineering.
  • Partner closely with machinists during new job launches.
  • Assist estimating with accurate machining time projections.
  • Maintain program revision control and digital file management.

Performance Expectations

  • Consistently meets or exceeds estimated cycle times.
  • High first-pass yield on complex parts.
  • Demonstrates measurable process improvements.
  • Serves as a technical resource to Level I programmers.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years CNC programming experience including full 5-axis simultaneous machining.
  • Advanced CAM proficiency.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T and tight-tolerance machining.
  • Experience with multiple control platforms (Fanuc, Siemens, Heidenhain, etc.).
  • Minimal supervision required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer.
  • Occasional standing, walking, or moving about the office.
  • Ability to lift or carry items up to 10-15 pounds (such as files, laptops, or office supplies).
  • Manual dexterity to operate a keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
  • Visual ability to read documents, screens, and reports.
  • Clear verbal communication for meetings, phone calls, and presentations.
  • Ability to focus on detailed tasks for sustained periods.
