Flo streams more than 50,000 live events annually across sports, including motorsports, wrestling, hockey, track & field, cheer, jiu-jitsu, NCAA Division II and III athletics, and more. THE ROLE:

As Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for leading and growing a high-performing team of talented fullstack and backend software engineers. You’ll be relied upon to help drive the strategic vision of our applications alongside our Product Managers and Designers.

Additionally, you’ll have an impact on elevating the entire Product Engineering Department through close collaboration with others at the leadership level—driving inclusion, diversity, ownership, and autonomy.

We are open to fully remote candidates for this role with occasional travel to our Austin, TX office.

Our tech stack includes: TypeScript, HTML/CSS/JS, PHP, MySQL, Redis, Sphinx, Firebase, Git/GitHub, Docker, EC2, S3, SNS, SQS, DataDog, and PagerDuty

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the performance, development and engagement of software engineers (4-6 direct reports) including hiring and growing of a high-performance team in shipping full stack web applications, features and services

  • Drives execution by organizing team work, setting goals, and holding the team accountable, including monitoring and escalating team issues

  • Ability to collaborate with Product Owners, designers, and QA on scheduling, planning, and sizing of functional specifications and software designs

  • Actively work against bottlenecks impacting the team so they can make progress towards team and department goals

  • Responsible for staying familiar with industry advances that may improve the team’s ability to execute more efficiently

  • Responsible for the quality and technical output of the team

  • Recruit, interview, and onboard new team members

  • Help to foster a culture of growth, openness, and opportunities for your team, including regular collaboration with other Engineering Leaders to drive accountability, autonomy, inclusion, diversity, and performance across the department.

  • Participate in code reviews, technical/architectural design and discussions, ensuring teams have healthy on-call escalations and incident management

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • 4+ years’ experience doing software engineering in a hands-on capacity - front-end and back-end focus

  • 2+ years management and / or team leadership experience in a software development role

  • Experience in leading a team of software engineer, helping them improve their skills, grow their careers, hiring and performance management

  • Demonstrated ability to focus on process improvements and key performance metrics that add to the overall effectiveness of the development team

  • Able to collaborate effectively and act as a partner in product decisions

  • Ability to understand systems and software architecture similar to a Sr. level engineer with considerations towards high traffic scalable web and distributed systems with an eye towards improving quality, reliability, performance and scalability

  • Proficiency in Front-End and Backend-End technologies

  • Proficient in consuming and building RESTful APIs with JSON and CRUD

  • High level proficiency with CI/CD processes

  • Experience with containerization preferred

  • Experience with large data sets preferred
