Job description

Are you an experienced Municipal Engineer looking to progress your career? We're looking for an Intermediate level Civil/Municipal Engineer to join our growing team. This role can be hybrid (part time remote from home and part time in the office) in our Saint John, NB office.  We also have openings in our Fredericton and Moncton offices.

At GEMTEC, we offer something different. We’re an employee-owned, 400-person multidisciplinary consulting firm—not too big, not too small. We’re large enough to compete head-to-head with publicly traded engineering giants, but still small enough to maintain the culture and flexibility of a close-knit team.

Our size and hands-on management style let us move quickly, embrace new opportunities, and empower our people to shape their own careers—without getting lost in corporate bureaucracy.

A typical day on the job might look like:

  • Leading and managing civil engineering projects from concept through completion, ensuring delivery on time, on budget, and within scope
    • municipal and transportation infrastructure,
    • commercial and residential subdivision land development,
    • site grading and mass detailed site earthworks for underground services
  • Preparation of stamped engineering drawings, quality assurance/control specifications and quantity estimates issued for tender and construction project administration.
  • Storm water modelling and management civil design.
  • Organizing/carrying out construction quantity surveying / field inspections.
  • Developing and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Preparing proposals and supporting business development initiatives
  • Participating in the implementation and adaptation of existing Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards, and Guidelines in the execution of all project work.
  • Acting in support of other GEMTEC offices when needed to complete projects.

The good stuff you get:

  • Salary range of $70,000 - $99,000 per year
  • Full-time (37.5 hours per week)
  • Complete health & dental coverage including vision, paramedical services, and Teladoc
  • Retirement planning made easier with a 5% employer match on your contributions
  • Paid time off (vacation and sick days) plus Employee & Family Assistance Program when you need it
  • Office year-end closure (paid time off between Christmas and the New Year)

Your background and what you bring:

  • 5+ years of experience in civil engineering practice with a preference for municipal engineering experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited university
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with a commitment to quality
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D 2018 (or newer version)
  • Experience with ArchGIS and/or QGIS software platforms would be considered an asset, as would experience with hydraulic modeling software suites
  • Currently registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGNB
  • Well-developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license and have access to a personal vehicle for work related travel
