Job description

Are you an experienced Manager looking to progress your career? We're looking for a Manager, Structural Engineering to join our growing team. We are open to filling this position in our Moncton, New Brunswick office.

At GEMTEC, we offer something different. We're an employee-owned, 400-person multidisciplinary consulting firm-not too big, not too small. We're large enough to compete head-to-head with publicly traded engineering giants, but still small enough to maintain the culture and flexibility of a close-knit team.

Our size and hands-on management style let us move quickly, embrace new opportunities, and empower our people to shape their own careers-without getting lost in corporate bureaucracy.

You're an ideal candidate if you have:

  • Dynamic leadership skills to grow with us.
  • Management and leadership skills with the passion and ability to lead our Structural Division in Atlantic Canada.
  • Strong technical expertise with business acumen and a passion for building high-performing teams.
  • A desire to shape strategy, mentor talented engineers, strengthen client partnerships, and drive sustainable growth.

A typical day on the job might look like:

As Manager of the Structural Division, you will be responsible for the strategic direction, operational performance, technical excellence, and financial success of the division. You will play a key role in expanding structural services across New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador, while contributing to GEMTEC's overall corporate strategy. This role offers significant leadership influence within an employee-owned organization committed to long-term value creation and industry impact.

Strategic Leadership & Growth

  • Develop and execute the Structural Division's business strategy in alignment with corporate objectives.
  • Identify and pursue growth opportunities across Atlantic Canada in public infrastructure, industrial, institutional, commercial, and energy sectors.
  • Contribute to planning as a member of the leadership team.
  • Promote cross-disciplinary collaboration across the organization.
  • Champion the principles and responsibilities of employee ownership.

Operational & Project Delivery Oversight

  • Oversee structural engineering projects from proposal through completion.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Monitor workload forecasting and resource allocation across offices.
  • Maintain robust QA/QC processes.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable provincial codes and standards (NBCC, CSA, and related regulations).

Financial Leadership

  • Develop and manage annual divisional budgets.
  • Monitor project performance, profitability, utilization, and revenue targets.
  • Review and approve proposals, fee estimates, and change orders.
  • Support accounts receivable management and financial reporting.
  • Drive sustainable, long-term value creation consistent with employee ownership.

Business Development & Client Relations

  • Build and strengthen relationships with municipal, provincial, federal, and private-sector clients.
  • Lead or support proposal preparation and competitive pursuits (RFPs and RFQs).
  • Represent GEMTEC at industry events, client meetings, and professional associations.
  • Develop strategic regional partnerships.
  • Support expansion into emerging sectors such as climate resilience, renewable energy, modular construction, and asset management.

Technical Leadership

  • Provide senior technical oversight on complex structural projects.
  • Review and seal engineering drawings and documents as required.
  • Mentor engineers and technologists in structural analysis and design (steel, concrete, timber, masonry, and foundations).
  • Promote innovation and the adoption of modern tools such as BIM and advanced modeling software.
  • Maintain strong awareness of evolving building codes and industry best practices.

Team Development & Culture

  • Recruit, mentor, and retain high-performing engineers and technologists.
  • Conduct performance reviews and support professional development planning.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and growth-oriented culture.
  • Support succession planning within the Structural Division.
  • Encourage participation in ownership and leadership development programs.

The good stuff you get:

  • Leadership role with strategic impact and the opportunity to shape regional growth
  • Opportunity for growth and development into a more senior management role in the future
  • Permanent Full-time (37.5 hours per week)
  • Complete health & dental coverage including vision, paramedical services, and Teladoc
  • Retirement planning made easier with a 5% employer match on your contributions
  • Paid time off (vacation and sick days) plus Employee & Family Assistance Program when you need it
  • Office year-end closure (paid time off between Christmas and the New Year)

Your background and what you bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Structural specialization required).
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in at least one Atlantic province.
  • Eligibility for registration in multiple Atlantic jurisdictions (preferred).
  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering (considered an asset).
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive structural engineering experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a leadership or senior project management role.
  • Experience delivering consulting engineering projects.
  • Demonstrated success managing budgets and contributing to business development.
  • Broad structural design experience across commercial, institutional, industrial, and infrastructure sectors.
  • Strong understanding of QA/QC systems and regulatory compliance (NBCC, CSA, and provincial standards).
  • Valid driver's license and have access to a personal vehicle for work related travel.
