We are looking for aManager, Technical Solutions. 

Our Business Automation Technology Solutions teamare a forward-thinking team, delivering cutting-edge solutions that transform our business operations. Our team is working closely with multiple business units and other technology teams to undertake innovative work aimed at building scalable and efficient business process orchestration and automation solutions focusing on capabilities in workflows, case management, Intelligent Document Processing (IDP), Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and content management and composition. We drive efficiency, innovation and continuous improvement for our stakeholders. 

We are seeking aManager, Technical Solutionsfor the Enterprise Rules Engine Capabilities and solution delivery who will work closely with various delivery and engineering teams as well as business partners to deliver on key business outcomes as well as technology priorities, driving forward modernization in our applications, platforms and our ways of working. 

This role is steeped in leadership - Delivery leadership, technical thought leadership and people leadership. The role is empowered to reinforce and build upon on the culture of tight collaboration, transparency and fact-based decision making that is centered on outcomes. 

What you will do: 

  • Standup the Enterprise Rules Capability at Canada Life 

  • Lead a cross-functional team to deliver product solutions that meet business requirements and engineering specifications. 

  • Bring technical thought leadership and lead efforts to remediate unsupported technology/applications (Upgrades, platform migrations, rewrites etc) 

  • Drive platform automation and engineering improvements that will accelerate delivery, increase quality, and reduce maintenance and change fail rates. 

  • Ensure applications and platform instrumentation is in place for proactive monitoring and responsive incident triage and resolution. 

  • Drive ahigh-performanceculture for staff and promote culture changes within the organization. 

  • Build strong and trusted relationships with internal and external partners ie: third party vendors where applicable. 

  • Manage risk and compliance in accordance with Canadian and Global standards. Ensure alignment/ adherence to Enterprise technology standards, vendor management standards, and risk standards. 

  • Focus on continuous learning and professional development. 

  • Drive an agile mindset within the team that measures progress over perfection. 

  • Hold yourself and your team accountable to contribute to the overall digital modernization of the organization. 

  • Identify and invest in opportunities (processes, training, systems) to enhance individual and team effectiveness. 

What you will bring: 

  • Post Secondary education in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent combination of training and experience. 

  • 5+ yrs experience in engineering/technology leadership position. 

  • Entrepreneurial Mindset 

  • Experience in Rules Engines - Specifically IBM CP4BA 

  • Bias to action. 

  • Ability to use knowledge of industry, business and systems to solve business problems. 

  • Proven ability to develop and maintain collaborative business relationships. 

  • Ability to pivot and quickly change direction in response to changing priorities. 

  • Experience coaching and mentoring technical practitioners. 

  • Strong communication, collaboration and relationship building skills. 

  • Delivery leadership experience with engineering teams. 

  • Architectural acumen with distributed systems. 

  • Ability to lead, motivate and drive performance within a delivery team. 

  • Curiosity, problem solving skills and critical thinking skills. 

  • Growth mindset: open to new ways of working, experimentation, ability to use a try-it-and-fail-fast approach to ideas. 

  • Demonstrated experience with both Agile and traditional project management approaches. 

  • Willingness to get technical to understand product. 

What will set you apart: 

  • Experience working in financial services industry an asset. 

  • Experience with application and platform migration 

  • Practitioner experience in IT - Development, Solution Architecture, BSA, etc. 

  • Experience in cloud technologies and architectures. 

  • Experience as product owner or product management roles. 

  • Experience with operational excellence processes - Kanban, Lean, Six Sigma, etc. 

  • Expertise with performance and proficiency metrics - definition and collection of. 

  • Knowledge of Individual & Group Insurance and wealth domains.

The base salary for this position is between $XX,XXX - $XX,XXX annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
