Job description

Job Overview: The CNC Programmer is responsible for developing, modifying, and maintaining CNC programs, manufacturing drawings, CAD/CAM models, and operation work instructions to support safe, efficient, and compliant production. This role uses CAD/CAM software to generate machine code for CNC equipment and ensures programs, fixtures, tooling, and process documentation meet customer, quality, and internal procedural requirements.
Responsibilities and Duties Required
  • Apply advanced CNC programming experience to complex, close-tolerance parts using equipment such as mills, lathes, mill-turn machines, EDMs, Prima/Laserdyne fiber laser, Flow waterjet, and automation robots.
  • Collaborate with Project Engineers and Operations to define the manufacturing plan, confirm work scope, and ensure customer and proposal requirements are clearly understood.
  • Review, interpret, and create CAD models, blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Design workholding fixtures, jigs, and tooling concepts to support the manufacturing process.
  • Use CAM software to generate, modify, and optimize CNC program code.
  • Create operation work instruction sheets using CAD/CAM software, models, and internal documentation standards.
  • Develop efficient manufacturing processes with consideration for safety, cost, quality, delivery, and repeatability.
  • Determine appropriate tooling, speeds, feeds, fixtures, and machining strategies.
  • Run and verify programs using simulation and verification software prior to release.
  • Create internal drawings, part models, and supporting documentation as required for manufacturing and work instructions.
  • Maintain NC Program Control database and required documentation in accordance with Shapes procedures.
  • Participate in technical discussions with customers, suppliers, Engineering, Quality, and Operations as needed.
  • Support Engineering Manager assignments and cross-functional manufacturing improvement initiatives.
  • Follow all applicable AS9100, customer, regulatory, and internal quality system requirements.
  • Ensure CNC programs, drawings, models, and work instructions are controlled, accurate, and traceable.
  • Support corrective actions, process improvements, and documentation updates related to programming or manufacturing issues
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills Required
  • Minimum of 5 years of CNC programming and machining experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience using CAD/CAM software such as Cenit, Catia, Mastercam, Siemens NX, or equivalent systems.
  • Proficient with CNC equipment and controllers including Laserdyne, Flow Waterjet, Hurco, Siemens, Mazak, and Mori.
  • Strong knowledge of machine processes, manufacturing techniques, tooling, materials, GD&T, blueprint interpretation, shop mathematics, and precision measurement devices.
  • Ability to develop machining processes, production tooling, and workholding solutions for close-tolerance metal components.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and make sound technical decisions in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively across departments and with shop personnel.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to travel throughout the manufacturing facility and perform work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position and constantly re-position self to perform required tasks.
