HWN Energy, Ltd. is currently seeking to fill the following position:


Job Title: Operations EIT (Engineer In Training)

Location: Calgary

Reports to: Montney Production Manager


The Operations EIT provides hands-on technical and analytical support to the Production Engineering and Field Operations teams across HWN’s Montney and Dunvegan assets. Working closely with field personnel, production engineers, facility engineers, and the broader operations team, this role is focused on daily production support, data analytics, and progressing small capital and optimization projects in a fast-paced upstream environment. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated EIT to develop well-rounded operational and engineering skills under the guidance of experienced professionals.

 

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

 

Production Monitoring & Optimization

  • Monitor daily production performance across Montney and Dunvegan wells and facilities, identifying anomalies, underperforming wells, and optimization opportunities.
  • Support field operations with troubleshooting production issues including well downtime, fluid handling, compression, and gathering system constraints.
  • Assist in the evaluation and implementation of artificial lift optimization and well intervention programs.
  • Collaborate with field operators and foremen to understand on-site conditions and translate operational observations into engineering action.


Well & Facility Project Work

  • Conduct well reviews including production surveillance, decline analysis, and performance benchmarking against type curves. Use Whitson software for technical well analysis.
  • Support well and facility reviews to identify debottlenecking opportunities. Participate in all stages of the project delivery process.
  • Assist in well repair process, preparation of wellbore histories, and executing workover programs
  • Identify, prepare, install, and optimize various forms of artificial lift.
  • Optimize pumps, pipelines, and compression facilities.


Data Analytics & Reporting

  • Develop and maintain production dashboards and KPI reports using tools such as Power BI, or equivalent platforms.
  • Perform data analytics projects focused on real-time production monitoring, facility throughput, and trend identification.
  • Support routine production variance reporting and forecasting for management and operational teams.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of data workflows, reporting templates, and analytics tools.


Projects & Management of Change (MOC)

  • Support smaller capital and operational improvement projects from scoping through execution, including cost tracking and performance reporting.
  • Assist in the preparation and facilitation of Management of Change (MOC) documentation for process and equipment changes.
  • Participate in risk assessments, technical reviews, and planning sessions related to operational changes and project execution.
  • Work with the Production and Field teams to ensure new production is brought online safely, on time, and on target.


Regulatory & HSE Compliance

  • Ensure all work is conducted in compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Remain a member in good standing with APEGA and maintain CPD hours annually.
  • Support preparation of regulatory applications, reporting submissions, and compliance documentation as required.


Desired Skills and Experience:

  • 0–3 years of engineering experience; internship, co-op, and field experience considered an asset.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Petroleum, Chemical, Mechanical, or related discipline).
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, as an EIT with APEGA.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills; experience with Power BI, Spotfire, or similar analytics tools is an asset.
  • Familiarity with production engineering software such as ValNav, Prodman, Fastpiper, Hysis, or other technical tools is an asset.
  • Field exposure in production operations, facilities, or workover activities would be beneficial
  • High attention to detail with a strong commitment to data accuracy and integrity.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and field disciplines.
  • Willingness to travel regularly to field sites within the HWN operating areas.
  • Must have a class 5 drivers licence and submit a drivers abstract
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Alberta
