Hours: Up to 60 hours per month - approximately 10-15 hours per week depending on projects and events
Location: Hybrid - primarily remote with in-person meetings and events
Primary In-Person Location: Durham / Triangle area, with occasional travel connected to NC 100 projects
Reports To: NC 100 CEO
Application Deadline: September 30, 2026
Anticipated Start Date: October 1, 2026
Background Check: Required
Transportation: Reliable transportation required for in-person meetings and events
Approved travel expenses will be reimbursed. A one-time $250 onboarding/signing stipend may be provided upon execution of the agreement.
NC 100 is looking for an organized, curious, and community-minded college student, graduate student, recent graduate, or emerging professional who wants more than a typical part-time role.
As Program & Strategy Associate (part-time), you'll get a behind-the-scenes look at how ideas move from conversation to strategy to real-world community impact. You'll work directly with NC 100's CEO and selected Board leadership while interacting with nonprofit executives, educators, funders, elected and government officials, and community partners across North Carolina.
This is an opportunity to build your network, sharpen your project management and leadership skills, and gain meaningful experience while doing work that matters.
About NC 100
NC 100 partners with community organizations and stakeholders to design and coordinate cross-sector initiatives that support youth development, amplify community voice, and strengthen local organizational capacity.
Our Theory of Change is grounded in the belief that communities become stronger when people and organizations have relationships, resources, and shared capacity to act.
We work as witnesses, conveners, coaches, facilitators, connectors, documenters, and consensus-builders to help create communities where residents have greater access to the resources and relationships that promote wealth, health, and opportunity.
NC 100 values autonomy, collaboration, work-life balance, equity, care, and community accountability.
Why This Opportunity Is Different
The CEO of NC 100 works across philanthropy, nonprofit leadership, local government, education, youth development, and economic development. NC 100 has worked on projects and engaged with activities and programs of local, state, and regional impact engines at Cone Health, UNC Health, MDC, Inc (Durham). NC Budget & Tax Center (Raleigh), North Carolina Department of Information Technology, Center For Responsible Lending (Durham), Hispanic Federation, Reidsville Area Foundation, Southern Partners Fund, NAACP, and a host of others.
In this role , you won't simply observe that work-you'll help move it forward.
You'll gain firsthand exposure to questions like:
How do nonprofit leaders build partnerships?
How do funders, community organizations, educators, and government leaders work together?
How does an idea become an initiative?
How do you organize people with different priorities around a shared goal?
What does effective nonprofit and community leadership actually look like behind the scenes?
For someone interested in a future career in nonprofits, philanthropy, public policy, education, government, community engagement, consulting, project management, or social impact, this role offers an unusual opportunity to learn by doing.
You Might Be a Great Fit If You...
Are the person who naturally keeps the group project organized.
Like turning big ideas into clear next steps.
Can manage several priorities without losing track of the details.
Communicate professionally with people from different backgrounds and levels of leadership.
Are comfortable taking initiative and figuring things out.
Know when to ask questions; and when to run with an assignment.
Can handle confidential information with maturity and discretion.
Care about community impact, equity, and nonprofit service.
Want meaningful professional experience and exposure to leaders across sectors.
Can move comfortably between preparing a Board packet, facilitating a meeting, coordinating an event, and helping launch something new.
What You'll Do
Executive, Administrative & Organizational Support - Approximately 60%
Project Management - Approximately 40%
Executive support looks like: Calendar coordination, meeting preparation, correspondence and follow-up, occasional CEO-related errands, document organization, and administrative systems that reduce the CEO's day-to-day coordination burden.
Project follow-through looks like: Take an idea or partially developed project, determine what needs to happen next, develop a simple work plan, pursue or coordinate follow-ups, track deadlines, and keep work moving without waiting for instructions at every step.
External representation looks like: Communicate professionally and appropriately with community members, funders, partners, vendors, tax preparers, grant writers, public officials, and other organizational stakeholders while understanding that their communication may sometimes represent NC 100 and the CEO.
Cultural competency and community awareness looks like: Demonstrate respect, curiosity, humility, and sound judgment when engaging communities with different lived experiences. Understand that relationship-building, trust, belonging, and community voice are important components of how NC 100 conducts its work-not simply considerations after the work has been designed.
Cross-functional coordination looks like: Work effectively with the COO on financial and administrative matters, with the CEO on organizational priorities, and with outside professionals on deadlines, documents, projects, and deliverables.
Facilitation and presentation looks like: Lead small-group conversations, keep meetings focused, create space for different voices, draw out participants who may not naturally dominate a conversation, summarize decisions and next steps, and make concise presentations when needed.
Judgment and initiative looks like: Know when to act independently, when additional information is needed, when to ask a question, and when an issue is significant enough to require the CEO's attention.
Reliability and in-person availability looks like: Consistently meet agreed-upon commitments, manage a partially asynchronous work schedule responsibly, maintain reliable transportation, and participate in required meetings, trainings, and events in Reidsville and the Raleigh/Durham area.
Understanding Rural North Carolina looks like: Working effectively in rural North Carolina requires understanding that communities are shaped by strong relationships, local history, place, and trust, while often navigating persistent barriers to resources, infrastructure, transportation, healthcare, and economic opportunity. The person in this role should demonstrate respect for rural communities and recognize their assets and strengths, avoiding assumptions that rural communities are monolithic, deficient, or simply smaller versions of urban communities.
Required Qualifications
1.College coursework towards a two-year or undergraduate degree. Progress toward a graduate degree is preferred.
2.Experience managing multiple responsibilities, projects, coursework, organizations, jobs, internships, or similar commitments.
3.Strong organizational and time-management skills.
4.Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
5.Excellent written communication skills.
6.Strong interpersonal and professional communication skills.
7.Experience planning or coordinating meetings, events, projects, or group activities.
8.Ability to work independently and manage assignments with limited supervision.
9.Excellent judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality.
10.Interest in rural communities, equity, community development, and local leadership.
11.Reliable transportation for required in-person activities.
12.Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including basic-to-intermediate Excel skills.
13.Comfort using virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams.
14.Ability to learn and use electronic file-management systems such as Microsoft SharePoint.
Your experience does not have to come exclusively from a traditional full-time job. Relevant experience may come from college or graduate school, internships, student organizations, volunteer leadership, community involvement, part-time employment, service programs, or other settings where you demonstrated responsibility and follow-through.
Bonus Skills & Experiences
We'd be especially excited to hear from candidates who bring one or more of the following:
1-2 years of experience working in community engagement or nonprofit organizations.
Knowledge of Rockingham County, including its communities, assets, needs, or history.
Spanish-language skills, written and/or verbal.
Experience with project-management tools such as Asana, Monday.com, Trello, Airtable, or similar platforms.
A solutions-oriented mindset and willingness to take initiative.
Interest in philanthropy, government, education, public policy, economic development, or social-impact careers.
You do not need to check every box to apply.
Location & Availability
This is a hybrid position that is primarily remote, making it particularly well suited for a college student, graduate student, recent graduate, or emerging professional based in the Triangle.
Preference will be given to candidates located within approximately 20 miles of the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area.
Because NC 100's work is relationship-driven, the selected contractor must have reliable transportation and the ability to participate in in-person meetings, community events, and project activities in the Triangle and/or Rockingham County when needed.
Typical availability includes:
1.Availability during multiple weekday periods between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
2.Monthly in-person meetings in Durham, NC.
3.Occasional meetings or events outside traditional business hours.
4.Select Saturday events or activities.
5.The contractor will coordinate availability with the CEO based on agreed-upon priorities, deliverables, meetings, and project needs.
About the Contract
This is a 1099 independent contractor engagement for approximately 10 months. The contractor is responsible for their own tax obligations and will provide services in coordination with the CEO according to agreed-upon priorities and deliverables.
The engagement is designed to provide flexibility while ensuring dependable availability for agreed-upon meetings, deadlines, projects, and community events.
NC 100 is committed to socially just hiring and contracting practices and seeks to cultivate an environment where voices historically excluded from leadership and decision-making are valued.
We intentionally encourage participation across race, ethnicity, gender identity, age, ability, economic background, language, national origin, and lived experience.
We especially encourage applications from individuals with connections to historically underserved communities and people with lived experience in Rockingham County.
How to Apply
Applications close September 4th, 2026.
Anticipated start date: October 15, 2026.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, so interested candidates are encouraged to apply early.
