Black Hills Special Services Cooperative (BHSSC) is a public entity that is an educational cooperative under the State of South Dakota. BHSSC is comprised of five divisions dedicated to aiding school districts, individuals, and the communities. BHSSC is seeking an individual to join our team as a Physical Therapist supporting the Belle Fourche School District to plan and administer medically prescribed physical therapy treatment for children suffering from injuries, or muscle, nerve, joint and bone diseases, to restore function, relieve pain, and prevent disability. BHSSC provides excellent service and supports to the people we support & assist in furthering our mission! Essential Job Duties-
  • Review Physician's referral (prescription) and child's condition and medical records to determine physical therapy treatment required.
  • Test and measure child's strength, motor development, sensory perception, functional capacity, and respiratory and circulatory efficiency, and records findings to develop or revise treatment programs.
  • Plan and prepare written treatment program based on evaluation of child's data.
  • Administer manual exercises to improve and maintain function.
  • Instruct, motivate, and assist child to perform various physical activities and in use of assistant and supportive devices such as crutches, canes, and prostheses.
  • Administer treatments involving application of physical agents.
  • Evaluate effects of treatment at various stages and adjust treatments to achieve maximum benefit.
  • Administer massage; administers traction to relieve pain.
  • Record treatment, response, and progress in child's chart or enters information into computer.
  • Instruct child and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home.
  • Evaluate, fit, and adjust prosthetic and orthotic devices and recommend modification to Orthotist.
  • Confer with Physician and other practitioners to obtain additional patient information, suggest revisions in treatment program, and integrate physical therapy treatment with other aspects of child's health care.
  • Train staff, families, and community on the program services.
  • Seek out opportunities to educate the public. Be available to speak at service groups when given those opportunities.
  • Compose, type, and maintain routine correspondence, reports, assessments, documentation, and various other materials and projects. Submit reports and documents as deemed necessary.
  • Operate various equipment to include photocopier, telephone, fax machine, computer, calculator, etc..
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Attend meetings, training, and seminars as deemed appropriate and necessary by BHSSC.
  • Perform duties in a manner consistent with safe practices and policies.
  • Perform other duties as deemed appropriate and necessary.

Job Qualifications-
  • Master's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
  • Two (2) years experience working as a Physical Therapist preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable by the hiring authority.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work well with subordinates, public entities, educational professionals, physicians, etc.
